Well, I think it works exceedingly well. I'd give you more than 5 stars but I don't have any left. Not generally being a big fan of landscapes or seascapes, one has to be very good to catch my attention. This one did. I'm sure it would have made a great colour painting as well, but in B&W the white tips of the wave really stand out as the focal point. I love the impression of movement in that rolling wave. Great contest entry. Taylor

I love this I think it worked out great. It looks like a night scène of the ocean lit by moonlight. What a cool concept. I often want to get back to painting, but I'm not crazy about the acrylic paints because I loved oil. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to the solvents that clean the brushes. I've often thought of using the water mixable oils. Do you feel they work about the same as oil? Very beautiful painting. :)PD

Thank you very much for your very nice review. The water mixable oils I find work well as they dry quickly and you can use neat or mixed with water or you can use a mixer. Your brushes only need cleaning with soap and water so you don't have the lingering smell of turps and oil. I prefer them to acrylics. It might be worth you trying them?

This is a perfect entry into this contest, not only that it is a fantastic seascape painted with expertise and great technique. The moon , clouds and sky have so much atmosphere and the moonshine over the water cutting a path to illuminate the crashing wave in the foreground is superb. The sea is churning , the wave is crashing and the rocks have added the earthy, grounding element. It's a wonderful painting and it totally works in black and white. There is so much mood and atmosphere here. Bravo! Thanks for entering and best wishes for the contest!

I think it works exceedingly well. Everything is here. Texture, depth, movement, energy, light and shadow with an excellent balance across the gray scale from black to white. Such a free feeling to this piece. Even though there is plenty going on here, it feels uncluttered. Skillful work. Nice going. Good luck with the contest. JAKE

I think you did an extremely great job in painting this work of art. It's great. I definitely like the look of the black and white. Very dramatic and dangerous. I think in this tone you see and hear the dangers of the sea. Not the pretty interesting place you see in the daytime while you're laying out on the beach catching some rays, but the rough, serious and dangerous place that it really is in reality. You can see the harshness of the waves rolling over and crashing back down, just to swell and start over again. I think you did a great job and I really think you have a work of art here with a lot of impact. Great job.

Very nicely done. Your never know, when it come to painting, how things will come out. Your night beach is perfect. I love the moon glow on the water and your wave action on the rocks. The clouds radiate the moon's effect's so perfectly. You can consider this work a keeper.

It's wonderful. Your shading and highlighting have really made this piece vibrant. When I look at it, I almost see color.

The churling ocean waves and the moon in the background, just a wonderful scene.

thanks so much for sharing.

It's beautiful. Black and white are the only colours visible to the human eye at night and this composition is simple but captivating. The absence of colours enhances the content and makes it look timeless. I love the contrasts, movement and strength of this great piece - keep it up.

It not only works, it's beautiful. I love the ocean, and what makes the ocean so beautiful and exciting to me is not just the color, but the look of the water itself with the gushing waves. You have captured the allure of the ocean. You have great contrasts and highlights. Nice moon reflections on the water and a dramatic sky with the moon glowing in the darkness. This is a night scene and the black and white accentuates this. The color is not missed. You did a wonderful job, it has great initial impact, I love it! Good luck in the contest.

I know the colors would be so pretty but I really like it in the black and white too. The waves rolling, the sun reflecting (or moon) on the wwater, the different values, all look really good.
