Gorgeous family portrait. Love the expression on both. Love your grandsons eyes. Delightful colour palette. Great highlights and shading. Thanks for sharing.

Very, very nice Suzanne. I think this is a very special and very well done drawing. And considering that you are using soft chalk makes it that much more amazing. Chalks are not a very easy medium to work with they tend to smear all over the place. Are at least that was my experience with them. But you have done a marvelous job creating this heart felt work of art that will be in your family for years to come. You have created your own family heirloom to be passed down from one generation to another. And the eyes on that baby are so gorgeous. I think you did a splendid job and good luck with the contest.

Thank you so much for your lovely review - I wasn't really happy with the eyes so I'm glad you like them! While I'm working with pastels I spray with fixative or hairspray in between layers and cover the bottom of the picture with a piece of kitchen roll so that I don't smear that while working on the top half - and have wipes nearby for my fingers as I blend mostly with my fingers! I think what you dislike about the eyes is that they have a little bit of a puffy look, but he's a baby and you are working with chalk, it's an amazing work of art. And I really love those big blue eyes.

You are very welcome Suzanne, it is a great shot. Can you do work from a photograph?

I was thinking about my grandbabies when they were that little. How much do you charge to do a work of art like this?

I really wouldn't know! I've only ever done these for the family. I'm sure you could do one yourself, though. Suzanne

Oh I do plenty of photography of them, but I don't paint anymore and people were never my favorite subject matters for painting.

Well, if you would like, I'd be pleased to have a go at doing a pastel from one of your photographs. Anyway, let me know. Suzanne

I will, I'll talk to my daughter about and see if she would like to have one of those done.

Oh, Suzanne, this is so precious, and it is very well done. I love the faces and the eyes are wonderful. The pastels were a perfect choice of medium for the soft and gentle on the figures. Really nice work, and a joy to view!

You are so welcome. Having been doing marker work and drawings, if the eyes don't make it the whole image fails. And they are always the hardest thing to get just right. I think you did good with these. I am so much more aware of eyes than I used to be. Trying to learn how they are "constructed" and how they catch the different lights. Tried my hand with just plain pencil the last couple of days. I so admire FLYBOBROV'S pencil portraits. sarah/pattigirl

Great entry for the contest. He would be "my boy" also with those amazing blue eyes. So soft and lovely a portrait.

This is a very nice and soft pastel drawing - these blue eyes are stunning - they are so real the way they shine in this image - the prime focus point in your picture - your son certainly will fall in love with this image - great color choice, soft and uniform background that lets the total attention on these two Men - happy enjoying themselves - great detail work , nice lighting, this image has a precious shimmer of soft glitter that is amazing, all the best for the contest

Very nicely done. I love the detail in the way you did the hair and eyebrows. Very nice highlights and shading. I like the proud look on your son's face and the curious look in your grandson's eyes. A very lovely rendering.

Great picture! Your grandson is absolutely adorable and clearly the apple of your son's eye. Your grandson's eyes are a gorgeous blue. I like the expression on your son's face as he engages with him. From what I can see of your son's eyes, they look like a light blue, does your grandson have his color eyes? Beautiful pastel colors used in this picture and a very nice composition with the close up. Congratulations on number 3!

Thank you so much for your lovely review. Yes, they both have blue eyes - I made my son's eyes a little lighter to show up. Suzanne

This is a most skilfully done piece that I am sure will be a very treasured family heirloom for many years to come. I like the composition and am particularly struck by the colours that you have used in the skin tones. This is almost impressionistic :D Very nicely done.

Awe, that is so cute. I love the way daddy is looking at his son. Pretty blue eyes, too. I really like the chalk pastels you used.
