I bow in deepest respect for the master of night time floral photography.
This piece is simply stunning.
You are absolutely correct about the impression of fine porcelain.
Furthermore, I think your going against convention in capturing this exquisite blossom only partly open is masterful and inspired. So I say to anyone who throws conventional practice in your face, ie fully blossomed - "May all your camels have fleas!"
Your manual settings have given an ultra high resolution take of a flower that deserves nothing less.
The contrast you have attained with this capture is nothing short of brilliant.
I am impressed and humbled by this demonstration of your photographic skill ... B-)) Bob
P.S. - You betcha, this one gets a 6!

Oh Bob, Bob, Bob- you have definitely flattered me w/ this review. I shut the laptop off last night w/ a very big smile on my face....and could not stop laughing thinking about the "May all your camels have fleas!" bit.....THAT is a line I will definitely remember.....lol
I knew EXACTLY what I wanted w/ this image and this most lovely little TULIP apparently understood. I wanted simplicity...well, that AND the porcelain look. I was out there w/ my camera, my flashlights and Comanche....and then the Coyotes started howling.....OMG...such an eerie sound....and they were close but Comanche was closer so I stayed (I HAVE been known to head back to the house once the Coyotes start howling you see) Anyway, perseverance paid off. It's one of my favorite vertical images now and I'm so glad you like it.
Thank you so much OMP for such a wonderful review. Your kind words mean a lot....and, of course I really appreciate the shiny gold star as well. You're a PEACH!!!

An apt name for a colorful, seemingly informally painted bloom.
I'm curious how does it look like when fully opened! Or does it open further?
Impressive capture in a chiaroscuro effect.
Darkened backdrop pops out the subject aesthetically.
Natural colors & fine velvety smooth textures.
Tall format with ample marginal spaces all throughout the frame.
Thanks for sharing...

Yes...it opens fully Dick. It's white w/ red splotches....not as pretty as it is here though. Thank you for checking it out.

Reminds me of the design inside opaque marbles--the ones with the cloudy interior not the transparent kind...

Another great evening shot. Do you set the white balance to make allowance for the tungsten light? A beautifully composed shot with superb detail in the flower and great colors.

I always do test shots MM...even though I try to always use the same two flashlights, distance, flower type etc.....even the air on a particular night seem to make a difference. Everything was working together perfectly the night I photographed this TULIP. Thank you so much for checking it out...and for the wonderful review you've given it. I always appreciate your thoughts.

Cool,Deb! : )
I don't know much about 'The Masters' either ( I don't really care much about 'em either Lol! ) but I certainly do like the looks of this vividly colorful tulip that you've presented us with such an attractive photo of!
It's definitely a 'Good Show',my friend!

Stunning capture, Deborah of this beautiful Masters' Tulip and thanks for your notes explaining this. I love Tulips and love all the exotic types. This does have beautiful colours and a porcelain look to it. The dark background makes a perfect frame. Excellent lighting and focus. Beautiful composition. Suzanne

I thought this TULIP was so pretty that the simpler I could make the presentation the better Suzanne....so I do really appreciate the wonderful review you've given it and the shiny gold star. Thank you so much for both.

This indeed a stunning looking tulip Deborah, and it is standing out from the black background in the most excellent way. The combination of white, red and green is truly beautiful and the light is shining on the flower in a truly lovely way.
Your focus is spot on and sharp and it is indeed clear and well defined details to be seen in every part of the Tulip. I also think the exposure is perfect.
I like the simplicity of the composition, the perfect cropping and the centered position of the Tulip within the frame. A truly lovely and well taken photo, and with an excellent DOF.

Wow! This truly is gorgeous. I does look like a porcelain, hand painted tulip. Stunning!! Thanks to your knowledge of how best to capture your flowers at their best...we are enjoying this magnificent artistry of colors as if they were put on with brush strokes. And the white tulip as the canvas could not be more perfect.
This capture is really a winner Deb....in any contest or at any gallery. And it is absolutely a must to hang on your wall!! or put into your calendars... Stunning.
Kudos on your low-tech invention for such magnificent lighting! Where there's a will there's a ways!

I always run low on images to use in the vertical format of my calendars Becky so this big, bold guy is definitely going to get a page! Thank you so very much for the really generous review and the extra sparkle. Been out picking raspberries and it was a real treat to come in and find such a wonderful review....seriously. Thank you again Becky.

I love tulips and this is a true master-piece! Your nightime photos are just so cool and dramatic. No one should disparage your method. Superb lighting allows all kinds of highlights and shadows to abound. The clarity and details and color are all superb. The presentation is bold and makes a fantastic initial impact. You are right that there is so much artistry in the slightly open bloom. Be proud of this one, my friend.
P.S. I have a new post. Another instrument manipulation. Fun stuff.

A very beautiful bloom shot presented here! Your full and central composition quickly attracts attention. The camera settings do a great job of capturing the lines and tones of your nice flower. Nicely done!

Wowzers! This one jumped out so much when I opened it! In fact it blew out my computer screen (thanks a lot). What a stunning photo BB. There is so much to say about this that it would take a separate kindle book file to say it all. This looks like it came out of or should be in a magazine, or better still, as a photo in the lobby of a fancy motel lobby in Dubai (you know the kind I don't even know anybody who could afford to stay in). Just everything about this is Soooooo well done BB. One of your Better ones you have posted. So now that I haven't said anything about the fantabulous colors, black background or any of that other photo artistic stuff that I know nothing about, I will simply give this beauty my Highest 9 Star rating. Great work BB ~ BB
P.S. Let me know if they dare downgrade my 9 to a 6 and I will Personally send Tom a really nasty note.

Oh no BB....my simple little TULIP did in your computer screen....lol I have been out picking raspberries and what a treat to come in and find this review. I am honestly flattered. Thank you so much for such an outstanding review and the extra sparkle you shared w/ it. I know you like to use your gold stars sparingly so I REALLY appreciate you giving this guy one of them. Oh and it's a 9 for me so no nasty note needed.....THAT really made me laugh btw!!
