Well I must say Nik, you do like your big Butte's don't you! lol. A Great capture, taken from a good vantage point and with pin sharp clarity and long DOF. The natural lighting is excellent and captures this solitary rock formation as it protrudes from the ground like something trying to break free, pushing upwards and about to emerge (and eat you!). The colour palette is varied and the browns are the shades of the mineral rich rock and rubble are subtle in change and broken up nicely with the green foliage. The cloudy sky above accentuates the piece well and the hazy/misty land in view in the distance gives a good idea of scale and perspective, great work - well done :)

I love the desert and have seen quite a few of the sights in Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico, but I don't think I ever made it out to see this one. It's a real Butte (Beaut? - pun intended ;) and your excellent photo gives the rest of us a chance to enjoy this fantastic landscape.

Beautiful shot. Your DOF is perfect to capture details throughout the image. The composition works really well to highlight the amazing monument, the vast land surrounding it and the lovely sky. A joy to view. Thanks for sharing.

I want to draw a face on that butt! Lol. It looks like a head with neck and beginning of shoulders. Your focus is so sharp and crisp. You framed the image well. Looks like desert country which has a kind of beauty. I used to live in the Sonoran desert near Tucson, Arizona but near the mountains. The sky looks like this storm might give the desert some much needed rain. Thank you for sharing and best of luck with this image

A very nicely composed shot of this classic scene from Monument valley. I like the sparse vegetation in the foreground and the great natural color palette. Excellent detail and a joy to behold.

A wonderful look at this amazing rock formation! Great off center composition. Excellent light and colors. It certainly looks isolated. I'm surprised there wasn't a crowd of people looking at this landmark.

wow what an amazing creation of nature this is. Stately, stunning desolate and unique all in one. Has it been formed from anything specific or does it just simply exist.. Great photo exposing its rawness and effect on the landscape. excellent expose and depth of view with the foreground boasting its sparsity and well lit earthly tones and a background of greyish clouds providing a contrast to the Butte. Well balanced photo with the Butte centred for visual display and appeal. thanks for sharing this unusual formation of nature. We have something of similar uniqueness in Australia called Ayers Rock... a joy to review. cheers mel

These wide open spaces are hard for a New Englander like me to get used to.

Overcast days are perfect for this type of landscape. The soft and even light accentuates the color of the earth and makes the best use of contrast.

The center of interest is nicely positioned to the left. This positioning allows us to see more of the far horizon - well done.

Your camera technique is exemplary. Great detail and a deep DOF.

The natural monuments all have a very high initial impact - this one is no exception.

Well done ... B-)) Bob
