A good looking nature image posted here together with interesting notes! Your fine, full and appropriate composition offers us an enjoyable view of that handsome squirrel and its location. Textures, colours and tones are good. Exposure and sharpness are fine. Nicely taken!

This is such a great capture Pat, you really are very good at taking animal portraits!
The DOF is just right, keeping the whole squirrel perfectly sharp and the background perfectly blurred. The detail in his fur is extraordinary.
You've framed him well within the two branches of the tree, and the colours, although somber, are beautifully natural, showing the minute tinges of brown within the fur.
Just out of interest, do you work in RAW, as the quality of your photos suggests?

This is such a great capture Pat, you really are very good at taking animal portraits!
The DOF is just right, keeping the whole squirrel perfectly sharp and the background perfectly blurred. The detail in his fur is extraordinary.
You've framed him well within the two branches of the tree, and the colours, although somber, are beautifully natural, showing the minute tinges of brown within the fur.
Just out of interest, do you work in RAW, as the quality of your photos suggests?

The bar for every technical and artistic standard has just been raised with this post. I don't say that lightly, I mean you hit this one not only out of the park but into orbit.
The focusing of this subject is uniformly razor sharp from nose to toenails.
The background bokeh is light and pleasing.
Ambient lighting is a little subdued. In this case it is a good thing. The light level is what brings out the fantastic detail of this guys fur coat and its facial features.

The photo is sharp showing such clear and well defined details in every part of this little fellow, and the exposure is perfect.
I also like the way you have cropped the photo and the placement of the squirrel within the frame. This is indeed a lovely, sweet and well taken photo pat, and with an excellent DOF.
