Good artist notes. Very nice of the cat and dog. The softening looks good to me. The gentle friendship definitely shows here. There colors look good with details. I can hear the cat purring and the dog gently sniffing. Cyber 5.5. 'Enjoyed and good luck in the contest.

I am not comfortable with shooting portrait shots myself but I do love to see good pet ones and this qualifies. Your cropping and softening are very good and as usual the exposure is dead on. I am not sure the applied frame does it for me but that is only my opinion [I ignored the frame in my grade]

What a touching moment you have captured. The cat looks thoroughly at home with the dog. Nice soft focus adds to the feel of this image.

My reviews are set with "Blinders" which means the names of those who are being reviewed, are not shown.
Thus the reviewer does not know who the artist may be or if they are one of my Fans and so am not influenced by reputations of the artist. That way you get a fresh review or your work, as each piece is a new challenge.

A challenge for a photographer, is to make their work look as good online as the original subject. Reviewers can only judge what we see.

Many times an automatic adjustment in an editor can make a major improvement or make it worse. So, sometimes we need to use an advanced editor to make it look as close as possible to the original and this can only be done on a calibrated monitor. This way if the reviewers monitor is also calibrated, we see the same thing.

Your work looks good, on my monitor, though a bit in need of sharpening. With adjustment, it would probably would make a really good print.

Colors fool many into thinking they have contrast. Some colors are dark, some light, some in middle ranges. But, each color needs a contrast range to look its best. With a greater range of zones, it gives all the whites, yellows, oranges, reds, greens, blues, etc. a lot more impact.

One way to tell if we have a tonal range, is to remove all saturation completely.
That will show the range of zones, from black without detail, to white without detail, and at least ten shades of grays in between. It is the blacks to white range in an image, that gives color its impact. That gives it more punch or impact. At times just changing the middle tones, creates what you want. (This can be done in a histogram in an editor or with gamma.)
If you captured the dogs eye by itself, and adjusted it for sharpening it would be stronger.

When we have an advanced editor, like Photoshop or Gimp, and IRFanview, we can use the histogram to adjust Shadows, mid-tones and highlights. (Gimp has photoshop like features. IRFanview, is a good, but simpler editor. Both are free on the Internet.)

Your image has a lot of color. Like the yellows, browns, orange, and blacks.

you have a good eye for composition. The light grabs attention, leading to the building points with greatest interest.

With a good editor, we can bring out -individual- colors so they could be stronger or have better contrast and dominate or draw interest.

Your photo is above average.

Sharpening is important. With an editor we can sharpen to focus attention on a specific area of our choice. When we edit digital images, they lose sharpness, even just resizing them causes a loss. So a final sharpening after changes can make them look the way we want...

Your image could use some sharpening.

Many photos are too dark or light and flat or grayed, without sufficient contrast for the subject.

You have done well, could use a little adjustment for full range or the most impact.

Keep practicing or learning more and a year from now, you can be surprised at your work. :)

With 74 years experience, am still learning something new.

Some say they would not change the way anything is captured in the camera. They think of photos like a Journalist does, only recording reality.

Artists change anything which the creative side of their brain, motivates them, to express. They express a part of themselves into their art.

They communicate things, that no straight duplication does. When we communicate feelings to one or more people, we are successful. Money is not the only measure of success.

Initial impact, we had a dog and cat who gave birth to their own litters. When one of the mothers needed to go outside, the other would watch both litters. Lighting, is good. Action, sniffing. Cat/dog Presentation. Color Harmon, is good. Center of Interest the two face to face. Cropping is good. Focus is good. Depth of Field is in effect here and blurring the background. Story telling is in the title and artist?s notes.

Very cute composition.
