oh yes , oh yes this Cleo is a perfect example of what we've just been talking about, in that the text and the art become one, such compelling images , yet the words put the meat on the bone evoking a time of passion . glamour and freedom of expression , their names make the spine tingle , this is stunning and so good luck , its a beauty (I;ll be humming "underneath the lamp light" all morning now good old glamerous Marlene

Oh, thank you! :-) Yes, an perfect example as I realize reading the reviews to the piece. Nice of you humming that tune...Do you know the story of the song? The names Marlene and Lili Marleen are just coincidental. The song was written 1915, when Marlene was just a nine year old girl in a not so glamorous part of Berlin. [She was born about 10 minutes at foot from were I lived]. I may do sometime a piece about the song, but that would go only with a story what would cause a lot of trouble for the average reviewer.

mmmm now i know it was the song often sung by german soldiers during WW11 and but in so many ways it became international , but no tell me more Cleo

It was written in the first war and sung by different entertainers on all fronts in at least four languages by soldiers fighting each other. [I am still ask quite often to sing just that song, even down here.]

Wow fantastic work! Great image resulted from great efforts and good thinking behind.. Love what you did here with twelve layers from different photos and postcards. This is a very good tribute for the memory of these famous artists of that era..

My friend, this is such an exceptional piece that I'm not sure how to begin, I'm speechless. My husband would say this is impossible...lol so maybe you've achieved the impossible.

Black and white is always so dramatic and evokes strong emotion. The background of black upon which you have placed the period vignettes is a perfect foil. The images are well placed, not overcrowded and demonstrate an excellent use of space. Contrast here, particularly with the two white figures on the top capture the eye. The music score and the familiar Chaplin image are a great addiiton of the recognizable.

Your artists notes are perfect. I recognized some of the individuals myself and have seen the Blue Angel, but for most on this site, they will need a more intensive introduction and you have provided it. Not too long, not too short, but perfect.

Well done Cleo, I voted for you in the ballot box and I hope that you are the winner so I can give you a virtual hug. Cyn

It is always nice to see alternate approaches. The approach and idea really speaks here.I also like the gentle merging which takes the eye all over the place and evokes memories of the good old days! Good luck in the contest!

Cleo, this upload is done by a hand that not only knows and understands the era with the inclusion of many Golden Twenties artists but it also shows us more than one aspect...music, fashion, film art.

I admire the professional handling of this collage and most certainly you have my vote for the contest because..............

This upload looks like a lot of work went into it....from it's birth regarding the theme to the technical skills shown by your twelve layers, conversion and paints. Blue and black. You have included white notes, blue pops to enhance the mood and the overall black and almost monochromatic touches infuse this image with the character of the time.

The Golden Twenties are also called the Happy Twenties and this feeling comes across very well with what you have, including Charlie Chaplin...Marlene, Kuna's work (something I didn't know was that Kuna was Polish, thank you Cleo for educating me). Kuna was known for his style of work "rytm" this work melded the classical with the modern. Did you know that during this time inflation was so high that currency was used as heating!

Sorry, for babbling, but your work is a lesson in history and I enjoyed it very much.

From the beautiful esthetic presentation to the technical expertise demonstrated by this artist, this upload is a stand above and you have raised the bar of the competition.

This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.
The highest and the lowest rating are not included in calculations.

Thank you very much for your exceptional review, a review thoughtful, educated and understanding. I am honored to receive a such high rating. Thank you. Yes, I know about the inflation. Truth born two decades later, I was born and grow up in Berlin, Germany. We played as kids with some of that money we found in the burned out ruins of the city in the after war time. I lived 10 minutes from the house Marlene was born in...now I am babbling...sorry. Thank you again. You truly made my day!

OH NO OH NO ....I love babbling and getting to know you and about you. I was born in Regensberg, in a DP camp, on the way to immigrate to Canada, my beloved country.

I loved getting lost in your image, found it very educational, and for your education I thank you very much. Oh and by the way, my husband and I visited Regensberg a few years back, a nostalgic visit. I wanted to see where the camps were located and the people in the hotel said "you'll have to ask our cook, she's old, she'll remember.".....that makes you understand how old I am....tempus fugit and how precious our lives are and how quickly this gift of life passes us by....let's enjoy every era and every day.

In a DP camp? that place us about into the same generation....I agree about the passing time and the preciousness of our lives.

This is a wonderful piece of art. The collection is complete, and the blue going thru is beautiful. I don't understand how you put all this togeher as I am learning, but it is beautiful.
