The best with this photo is the close and personal approach, and also the all dark background. This let us study the eye and the beak in detail, and the bird is also standing out in an excellent way.
Your photo is also pin sharp and it is such clear and well defined details to be seen in every part of the bird's head. The exposure is spot on and has brought out such a fine shine in the eagle's eye.
The very tight cropping is working well and the bird has got a very good placement within the frame showing off its beak. Indeed a lovely and well taken photo, and with an excellent DOF.
