This pastel painting of the yellow rose with green stem and blueish leaves is very well rendered. Lovely smooth lines. Skilful composition: well-defined centre of interest perfectly framed to accentuate the theme of your piece . Overall a very good effort.

Thank you much. I put layers and layers of oil pastels on the petals. Have you worked with oil pastels also? They are supposed to not omit carcinogens like soft pastels can.

I think this could be a winner. A very skillfull drawing everywhere frim oetals and keaves to shading and toning. Very balanced and framed within a dark setting. Deserves a 6 but none left

Thank you so much, artist friend Brenda, and for the best hopes. I forgot if you have used oil pastels or not. I applied layer upon layer of supposed-to-be soft oil pastels on the petals. I purposely applied less on the leaves. Oil pastels are supposed not to omit carcinogens as soft non-oil do.

I could never do that like the rose with oil pastels. I have some and from time to time I retry using them. But never happy with results. Maybe I dont have the know how. Do you use them direct or add something to make them more pliable? Any hints or tips on how to deal with them would be most helpful Glena.
