Well what you did does work beautifully. I like the glow you've got going on with the candle on the rose. and I like your composition as well as the texture of the rose. In fact, its so pretty that I find the purple glowing rays in the background to be a bit distracting. I wonder how it would look with a smooth, solid background? Just my thoughts...

You have a lot of criticism on your own work; probably that's why the result is so perfect; the visual impact is very strong, the image radiates plenty of passion - the combination of red and black gives this sensation of romantism and love; I like very much the purple rays, bringing backlight and enhancing the silhouettes of the leaves - wonderful.
