This is indeed an original entry for a flower contest, and I think the selective coloring is just perfect. The red rose is standing out nice against the black and white background.
Your photo is nice and sharp showing very fine details in the rose. You have also captured fine details in the black dress, but the hat and also the top of the hand are a bit over exposed. I also think the work you have done to the background could have been done neater.
This is all over quite a nice composition, but I think the black background is a bit overwhelming. I would have cropped just a tad off on the left side so that the distance to the woman was the same on both sides, and then about half of the negative space at the top. I think this was a good idea, and with a few adjustments this photo will be even better. I wish you luck with the contest.

Really works well in black and white and the colour pop is spot on. Really like the way the rose makes light of the shot.

This is an unusual and different image. I think the selective colour does work well and the composition is good too.

a different interpritation on a flower contest, but perfectly viable in the context,i like the simplicity in this, and if this was taken at a funeral and not in anyway posed, then its quite clever to get this, and changing it to b/w then selective colour, again clever stuff, wel taken and seen shot....brian

I agree, the selective color looks great with the rest being black and white. Nice catch of her expression as well. Nice composition and impact. The best of luck in the contest. Thanks for sharing.

This is a great shot. I might lighten a tad to bring out more of her facial features. The B&W and colored rose is excellent. Focus is good. Very nice entry good luck.

A very sweet picture. The use of selective color makes for a strong picture. And making it b&w was a good move. Good job.
