A very nice work here and I wish we were able to send a copy of this work to the so called leaders of the world countries. I served in Korea and when we came home, we were made fun of and some even called us killers.

I so agree with you but fear also the brutal reality of how much worse it would have been if Hitler and Japan would have won the war and how many more children and adults would have suffered horribly. I despise war but know there is a time for good to fight evil. your piece is a perfect entry for the contest and i wish you all the best. Ronny D'Haene

Thank you very much, I appreciate your toughtfull review and your wishes. I agree, evil needs to be fought back. This artwork would not exist if Hitler would have succeeded. I am born German, but I am not aryan.

and Japan, they were very evil too. History records the Nazi's killed many of their so called pure blood who didn't agree them, like Bonhoffer [don't think i spelled it right] who wrote the awesome book: 'The Cost of Discipleship.' I have it and it is awesome. They killed him a couple of days before liberation and he wrote the book amazingly in prison.
Your piece is incredible. May God richly bless and inspire you in 2012, Ronny D'Haene, 4 I AM-For God

I know. It is the same allover the world. The evil toughts behind evil ideologies kills people.

A great set of notes with this presentation. I like your use of symbolism and the blending of the elements. A very nice composition.

This is an incredibly powerful image. Your composition is out of this world i love it. The innocent are always the hardest hit victims of war, they have no choices. Just fabulous i am really impressed

I'm sure the simple photo of the girl would look amazing too, but the changes you have made here give such a strong impact and made this an outstanding contest entry. Thanks so much for sharing this and best wishes.

I looked long and hard at this work.
I had to come back to it several times. It is very powerful, and very disturbing at the same time. It makes me think, and leaves me with a very deep unsettled feeling. Nice work.

i guess the answer i would say to my children is we tried and tried to talk but i just couldnt stand here while they are killing innocents over there, should i be a pacifist and hope for the best, or do i go to war to rescue these innocents...decisions decisions...do i hear they are not my problem i should worry about my own family and problems...decisions...decisions...we are told its the big politicians for greediness of big oil...yet the terrorist attacked us twice in several years with the chanting the west is the devil and we must be destroyed taking several hundred lives in a matter of minutes, and threaten us again and again.....so what do you say to a wall who wont listen ot talk...decisions decisions...im not for war for the killing..i am for an action for saving and only that...nice concept in the picture ..good choice of image...oh by the way..did you know that veitnamnese (communist) women would take a child ..attached a grenade to it and throw the child in the middle of a platoon..you know why she did it? the child was a half breed veitnamnese and american and the veit kong considered those half breeds to be impure...war is never pretty..never fair...but sometimes it can be just. overall you did a good job.

Thank you very much for your toughtfull review. It seems the picture made you think and that was my goal, even if you understand me partly wrong. I am not a pacifist, I know war is necessary sometimes to protect freedom. I have family members in one of them. Yes I know about the woman who sacrificed her child for a inhuman ideology what was build on heat. I know about and I know of the six year old loaded with explosives and send into an US military camp, and the boy what was a bomb who blow a bus in Ireland, and the children in the wars of Africa. I know about the children used in in Yugoslavia and Romania and elsewhere. But I know also about the sacrifice of the soldiers who protect humanity. No I do not talk about a particular war, the photos are not from were you place them. These pictures are from Central and South America. It is interesting you think of a particular war, of course it is the most closest to home for an American, but it's not the only one! The soldiers in my picture are victims as the children, shadows, ghosts do you see their crosses? The child ask the symbolic Why? as any child of any nation dos. The question is still what we answer. I get the chills when I see little five year old point her/his futuristic weapon on Christmas Day ad dad and says: Fall down daddy I just shoot you dead...and daddy dos just that and mommy laugh... What do we tell our children when they ask WHY?
Thank you again four your emotional and toughtfull review. I really appreciate it.

i am a history buff and know all this as well, i am a veteran soldier from the 70's so im used to hearing the hell no we wont go thingy. i apologize i thought those were bombers not crosses and again apologize. it still is a great image...still bad taste in mouth from the hippies back in the day..sorry.

Well, My husband is a Vietnam veteran. I wasn't in the US back than. I was trapped behind an iron curtain and a stone wall. I see the case more global. Don't be sorry. Your reaction is just one of the reactions I had in mine. I coun't your review as full susses and I am mot a bit offended.
Guess I have to do something to these crosses. If they look like bombers, that is bad and gives the whole picture a different meaning. I want to look them like something bethween a cross and a human. Thanks again
reply by MKFlood on 04-Jan-2012
i agree..i did thought they where bombers by the soldiers.

Cleo, this is an excellent creation. Very powerful, very dramatic. That precious little girl's expression says so much, as does the sharp barb wire cutting right across her little body, and the eerie silhouettes. Smoke, fire, other figures; everything. Artist notes are wonderful. A fabulous contest entry that will stay locked in my visual mind long after I've signed out of FAR for the day and turned off my laptop.
