Each of your Auschwitz photographs has been excellent. I loved them all but unfortunately was too pressed for time to review the first two. They all deserved 6 stars both for the excellent photography but also for the stunning story that they (and you in your fine notes) tell.

The muted tones and colors of work so well in helping tell the story suggested in your title and with the light at the window.

The composition is nearly symmetrical, suggesting the regimentation the inmates had in their lives at this place.

Your focus and dof are perfect and as I said, the lighting and exposure are excellent.

This was a chilling set of images Annie, but thank you so much for posting them and for your excellent notes helping us place this in proper historical context.

I really don't know what to say. It is hard to believe that anyone could treat others like they did. Your image is wonderful. The initial impact of course is your notes and the wonderful perspective of this image. The light is perfect. The color is good for the piece. The focus is sharp. Very nice image.

Thank you very much. I did not speak for a few hours either. Words are without meaning, when you really grasp the history of this moment in our time.

Good artist notes/history. Nice capture of the bunk area. 'Such a small living area. The lighting is just right for this. Frame, colors and clarity look good. Thanks for sharing.

I am a Christian and therefore I understand the image interpreted through your title from a Christian perspective. The window does of course carry an image of the cross but the irony of this is that it would have given little comfort to the inmates as they were for the most part Jews who were being eliminated by a Christian German final solution. I am not so sure that the image is therefore a light of hope for them. There were Christians in Auschwitz too. Christian Freemasons, Catholic Priests, and Homosexuals. For some of them the image would have meaning. As a stand alone documentary image it is very powerful. It is important that we never forget atrocity.

Thank you very much. Interesting point of view. I never saw the cross. I saw the light. This horrible part of our history has always been of interest. I have sent 3 photos from Auscwitz, and I don't think I have just mentioned jews. I am well aware of the fact that it was other religions represented. You are too preoccupied with the cross, where I see light. You forgot to mention the prisoners who were there for a reason. Sadistic murderers who got the job to guard and look after the other prisoners. They probably never saw the light or the cross. They were the survivers.

Thank you for your reply. For the avoidance of doubt, the light of hope is indeed a term used by christians in describing Jesus who is called the light of the world. It is therefore not surprising that I see the cross as it is in perfect and traditional proportion. Thanks for sharing your further perception.

Very sobering photo. Thank you for the thorough artist comments. After seeing your photo from yesterday, having to share your bunk with someone probably provided a bit of shared warmth in a frigid environment. I can't even imagine what I would have done in a similar situation. Great composition. Excellent detail and clarity. The light is perfectly captured to support the story.
