It is a good idea to take photos of buds for a contest like this, because most people just pass them without seeing their beauty. I especially like the all neutral background so that the buds can standing out well in their own right.
Your focus on them is however a tad soft, and I also think the buds are a tad bright. My suggestion is to sharpen the photo, lower the exposure and add more contrast. Sometimes simple things like that can work wonders.
The cropping works well, but I also think this photo would look really good cropped down to a square format. I think this is a lovely and well taken photo with a good DOF, but it needs some adjustments to really stand out. Still I wish you luck with the contest.

ok,,thanks,,I was taking a walk yesterday and took more of these,,everything is starting to come to life this time of year,,how can we not notice them?

A very nice close up. The subject is shown in fine detail and stands out well from the plain background. The colors are excellent and the composition is attractive. Best of luck in the contest.
