The dark background, low light gives this a studio like look.
Love the tight frame with diagonal placement. Fine selective focus, Controlled Exposure and nice B&W choice.

I think this flower is looking just as great in black and white as it would have done in colors, and I especially like the dark background because the flower is standing out so well from it. I also think the light is falling on the flower in a truly lovely way.
Your photo is sharp and it is clear and well defined details to be seen in all the petals of the flower, and the exposure is just spot on.
The tight framing is working so well, and I think the flower has got a perfect placement off to the left. Indeed a lovely and well taken photo Lisa, and I wish you luck with the contest.

While not typically a huge fan of B&W I do have to admit that your conversion here has made this single blossom stunningly beautiful.
CRISP CRISP CRISP focus!! love that. Each petal is just amazingly well detailed. Love the black background and placement of your blossom in lower left of frame has really made the most lovely presentation. Nicely titled and spot on exposure too. Beautiful entrant for this contest. I hope this does really well. Simply stunning....I think you got everything right in this image....it may be the first B&W I've given a gold star to but you deserve it here.
