It just goes to show you that not everything worth photographing occurs naturally. This really does create fascination patterns, tonal values and textures.
Congratulations on your contest win.

So, if I understand your notes correctly this is a manufactured scene? Your fine, full and central composition offers us an enjoyable look at your snail. Exposure and sharpness are good. Well taken!

Yes it is! Was hiking through the woods and saw the woodpecker holes in this old downed tree and wondered what I could put inside one of them. Many thanks for the nice review!

A beautiful & interesting picture of the Nautilus Shell just filling the abandoned nest hole of a Woodpecker the colours & grain of the wood complementing the colours & patterns of the shell. Beautiful composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus.

Strong visual impact : this draws the viewer right in because of the unusual objects together in one frame, the shell of absolutely beautiful and its one that I would love to find on a beach walk,I love the caramel stripes on the white shell and love the fine Markings in the swirl. This is in such contrast with the wood that frames it, what a clever idea you had to place the shell in the old woodpecker hole! This is of course, well focused, the image is clear, exposure is well managed, the colors and tones are natural. This is well composed and it's truly a pleasure to view! Well presented!

The contrast between the rough wood and the smooth shell is fantastic. The nautilus is very sharp and has some wonderful colors. Best of luck in the contest.

Nice image that takes two unrelated items and brings them together in an artistic whole. The colors and textures play very well together. Good sharp focus brings out the details very well. The nautilus is beautiful, bright and patterned. Surrounded by the natural roughness of the tree. Nicely conceived and put together. Thank you for sharing.
