Never seen or heard of this bird. Isn't the feathers and repeatative patterns intriguing here. And then it's head and moment you caught it open and it assuming making some call is amazing. Great job as always

Thank you! I like the markings on these guys. They have an iridescent shine that stands out when the light hits the head just right.

This is beautiful,i can almost hear it's call echoing across the water! A lovely capture of this loon with open beak,along with it's reflection. I can see it is has a scattering of water droplets adorning it's plumage. The ripples in the water add a sense of movement,as well as added interest.Thanks for sharing this great photo!

The call of the Loon echos across the waters in the still of the evening. Interesting view of this unusual bird with it head arched high as it calls. There is almost a wooden and painted feel to the texture of this character. Good color and details. Well seen.

Way cool. They are somewhat of a cold water still water bird aren't they? I had no idea that they leaned their heads back when they let out that call. I guess it makes good use of their throats to let that call be heard. I have Canadian dollar coins that have loons on the back. Commonly referred to as Loonies. I knew of someone with a coon hound named Lou Lou because of her bay that sounded much like a Loonie...she was bit looney.

Lol, I have heard of the Loonies but not seen one in person. These guys don't throw their heads back for all their calls, sometimes they don't move their head at all. They can be hard to keep track of with the way they dive and stay under the water for a few minutes and come up far from where they went under too.
