A very fine shot and a most unusual circumstance. I was surprised to see buds, let alone flowers at this time of year. A great shot that shows the hardships that come with blooming out of season.

Mike,
Thanks a million for your complementary review on this Hollyhock. If I'd cut it down after flowering instead of leaving the seed cases on the stem to mature I'd have missed this.

Yes, it is particularly beautiful because it survived so many hardships over there! Your fine, full and atmospheric composition offers us an enjoyable view of your lovely bloom. Well taken!

It is just amazing Susan. A Hollyhock Bloom in January. It hasn't been much of a Winter in Norway either, so perhaps I am in for surprises like this. The flower is so lovely and the light is falling on it in such a lovely way. I like the dark background as well, and how well the flower is standing out from it.
The photo is also very Sharp and it is Clear and well defined details to be seen both in the petals and the center of the flower. The exposure is just Perfect.
The photo is nicely cropped and the flower has got a very fine placement off to the left. A truly lovely and well taken photo and With an excellent DOF.

I guess it wasn't freezing in your area. A Hollyhock blooming in January is indeed a surprise. The photo is well focused and exposed. The blossom shows nicely refined details at the petals and its color looks realistic. The flower stands perfectly out from the dark background. The Hollyhock is excellently placed within the frame. The composition is balanced.

Cleo,
Thanks a million for your complementary review on this Hollyhock.
The climate in Ireland is mild compared to Germany or many of the States in America. We seldom get snow & if we do it seldom lasts more than 4 days. In 2010 & 2012 we had four weeks of snow in December & again in late February BUT they were exceptional years. I've not seen a Hollyhock flower in Winter before.

You're very welcome, Susan
I have never seen a Hollyhock blooming in January.
We get occasionally freezing, but the winters here in Texas are usually mild also.

This hollyhock is very beautiful! I like the way you photographed it, I love the shape and structure of this blossom, even with the frost bitten edges, the petals are just lovely. Well focused, this image is clear, exposure is well managed, the colors and tones appear natural. Well composed against the dark background, well presented!

Pat,
Thanks a million for your complementary review on this Hollyhock blooming in January...I fear it might be killed by the forecast cold snap due over the weekend. with the weather coming in from the north as opposed to the warm south west from the Gulf,

this is really very strange; obviously, the climate on the other side of the channel is much milder, so you can have some unusual flwers in winter; a god capture;

Fred,
Merci beaucoup mille fois for your complementary review on this unusual Hollyhock flowering in January...the first time I've ever seen this myself. Ireland at the moment still enjoys the benefits of the warming Gulf Stream...but with global warming it might disappear!

Susan it is very beautiful and what a lovely thing to see it in your garden. Very unusual. The rest bite adds a frilly edge which makes it even more appealing. A well angled and focussed take. Good background framing. I esoecially like how you captured the fine shading and details in the centre.
