A beautiful bird and a very nice shot. There are endless tradeoffs when photographing birds, but it would have been great if you were able to stop down enough to keep both birds sharp.

This is one of the best things about FAR, I get to see so many interesting birds that I otherwise would never see. This is another one that is new to me! I like the way you show it in its natural habitat, they go along the edges of the water to pick up bits of food, they are a pretty shorebird, I like the long legs and the bright yellow beaks, love the black heads and the black shoulder bands. I appreciate the clear faces and eyes.good stop of their action. Well composed and presented! Thank you for sharing and your notes are interesting, informative and appreciated too!

Thanks Pat visiting Tasmania for next 10 days but could only bring one camera so concentrating on scenery rather than birds but hope to find some new ones anyhow :)

Interesting birds. The colours on them are interesting. They can hide in the landscape but then the black on the head and neck makes them noticeable. Great photo with balanced just by the way they are placed in the photo

A beautiful stop action picture of this pair of Masked Lapwings with their yellow wattles forming a mask around their beaks, their sharp eyes watching you closely. On a patch of marsh surrounded by the water with the vegetation on the shores reflected on it's surface. Beautiful composition framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Their looks and their 'diversion' antics that you describe make me think of the little 'Killdeers' that my pet Beagle used to be so fond of chasing around during our hikes through the local swampland!
