Nice. What did the commission require or what was asked? My first reaction was this guy is in prison and is thinking of his girl. I am probably way off!

The clients dad dies some time ago. He was a big fan of the Willie Nelson song "Gypsies Rose". After looking thru her collection of photos I found the perfect expression of him. I'm a cartoonist and normally don't pursue doing portraits. However when I do I want to know more about the person that I illustrate. You know tell a brief story that represents them. I did chuckle over the prison comment. The family was aware of the story but I can see that the cartoon can represent many possible stories.
Like I said before. I don't pursue portraits. Only so much time to do cartoons create videos and keep up with many websites. Thanks for the great review.

By reading what you replied to one of the reviewers I see this from the daughter's viewpoint. Since the daughter is picturing her father, I see this as her imagining her father listening to "Gypsy Rose" because it was a song he loved. It's what she sees in her mind's eye. I like the way you did the vision of Gypsy in a lighter dreamlike mode. I like the spot light on your client's dad. I could be off with my thoughts, but the drawing is impressive and the daughter loves it! I know that had to make you happy! Nice to see your work again! :o) Nancy

It's a normal reaction when folks find out that someone can draw they want a portrait of something. Really any artist can do that. However since Im a cartoonist my approach is illustrating what is the highlight of this person that others can recognize and understand the cartoon. Glad ya like it a thanks for awesome review. Still working on the rock video

Hi Mark, I know what a BIG project the "Rock video" is! LOL I have the feeling it's the biggest project you've ever done! I know it was for me. I think it needs the time you're taking to put all the pieces together. Whenever you finish is fine with me. I know in the end your special touches will make the project sing!! :o) Nancy

You have not told us very much about this image, but the portrait of this guy is really well done, and since the customer is satisfied, she must agree. I especially like the expression in the face and how lovely the light is falling on it.
I also like the all black background, the limited color pallet and the beam of light behind the man. I have a feeling that the drawing of the woman has something to do with the Rose.
The format and framing is just perfect, and it is such a fine flow and balance in the composition. A truly great looking and well done portrait Mark.

I know I didn't detailed the artist notes. The gentleman in this drawing is dead. He was a big fan of Willie Nelson's song Gypsy Rose. His daughter commissioned me to do something of her dad. After asking more questions about the guy I got an idea what to create this for her. She loved it..wink

I do get tickled when a reviewer says "nice painting". Of course I have inform them that it's not a painting but a drawing instead. Also I don't work with any art medium. Mine is a office medium. Been work with sharpie and bic pens for over a half century now. Try em out. You might like em. Wink. Thanks for the great review
