The semi-parallel lines of motion in the clouds, city, ocean, and birds really show the depth of this photo. I also enjoy the shapes of the stones in the foreground and city in the distance sort of reflect one another, as the clouds provide a softer reflection of this shape as well. The whole photo has a watery feeling and the softness of the sky and clouds contrasts very well with the sharpness of the ocean. The overall feeling is rather dark and distant though, almost dissociated. The city in the distance is like the chunks of stone on the beach. Although it certainly holds many people, it is too far away to show it, and appears simpler with the detail smudged out by its size, but also by its diminutive quality when contrasted with the vastness of nature. It makes me think of how we humans struggle so hard to feel so important, yet somehow we just seem smaller and smaller. Perhaps eventually the waters will erode the city to smoothness as they have the stones.
