Congratulations on your 2nd. They are a very strange looking critter. I was thinking a cross between a jack rabbit and a kangaroo :) Wish I could see what his feet look like.

Cool,Charlotte!
That's a fine looking portrait photo of an interesting animal,my friend!
It's a very nicely-presented image, your notes are informative and Fun to Read ( I've studied Paleontology for almost 70 years now and I should have at least a basic knowledge of present day animal lifeforms yet I'd never even heard of a Mara before seeing this
posting! ) and I,well,like it a lot!

Thanks Sean! No I'd never heard of them before either and looked them up the minute I got home! But what was really great was to see them running wild.

Hi Charlotte, I thought this was an image of a kangaroo from what I could see! LOL I think they look like a cross between a kangaroo and a deer , now that you mentioned your thoughts. It's always fun and interesting to see something new and different. I bet you had a lot of fun watching this animal run around. Good focus and lighting allow us to enjoy this fellow. Thanks for sharing. This is a brand new sight for me in the animal world. Cool! :o) Nancy

Hi Nancy, yes they were weird looking creatures, there was a whole group of them, including babies! I certainly did enjoy watching them, I spent quite a while with them just sitting in the sun - I have to admit I wanted to take one home! I'll post some more images of them when I get around to it, they were so interesting - I love coming across animals I've never seen before!

What an intriguing creature ! My first thought was that it's part rabbit but looking at it it also makes me think of a kangaroo, looking at the face! I like the way it is posed and its position within the frame.
Well focused, this image is clear, exposure is correct, colors and tones appear natural.
Well composed and presented!

Thanks Pat, yes that face, I think he posed especially for me! Lol Brian thought kangaroo too, but I felt they resembled the Muntjac Deer most, being of a similar size at around 18 inches high.

This is an interesting shot of wild life. I too have so far not come across a "Mara' in this part of the world!. You have framed it well. The light and shadows, colours and, composition have worked out well. Good luck!

Charlotte,
A beautiful portrait of this Mara nose in the air eyes fixed on you & ears pricked to catch every word.as it stands out from the blurred green background.
Beautiful composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you very much Susan, had you heard of them before? You're so knowledgeable on all that is nature you probably had, they were very new to me!

What a fabulous photograph! I've never heard of Maras before - how lovely that they're running free on the edge of the zoo's grounds. You captured this one really well. Lots of clear detail to enjoy, with perfect dof giving the blurred background which works so well here. A lovely shot Charlotte!

Good shot of this animal although i have never heard of it[also looks like a small kangaroo] good dof also wonder why its legs have been cut of in this and not had all of it in,does not distract though from the overall photo...Brian

Thanks Brian. Yes, I hadn't thought of a kangaroo, but you're right!
I have a few shots of the group I came across (all the others do have legs!), and really couldn't decide which one to enter, so I chose this one as just a head and shoulders view thinking it perhaps showed him a bit more closely - probably made the wrong decision though!
