Love the set up. The clarity is great. The angle of the shot of this skull and butterfly surrounded by pine cones is great. The capture of the light is great. The presentation is balanced and eye appealing to the viewer. Creative approach and awesome work overall

This is a great entry to the contest. The presentation is unique; the skull stands out nicely from the background, the brown cones straw and butterflies are a nice contrast to the white skull. Good luck in the contest.

Hi LeeAnn, love the creativity you had in setting this up. I think the moths really added a special touch to the image. Glad they stayed where you wanted. Looks like a very natural image. The whole presentation is wonderful with good lighting and focus. I enjoyed the view! Good Luck in the contest! :o) Nancy

Many thanks, Nancy; I have different variations of this image, some mornings I would get it set up, only to have the moths agitated and in no mood to stay put; I would end up putting them back in their enclosure and putting the setup away until the next day.

This is an excellent visual for us still life competition. I love your creativity. It's interesting that you raise Moths. You must tell me more. Love your composition, shades tones, and presentation. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so very much; I have always loved the large silk moths; luna, cercropia, and Polyphemus; I rear Monarch butterflies from eggs and caterpillars I find, and for about three years I had no luck in finding any. After some searching i found a site, and more recently, an individual who sells eggs and cocoons of the large moths, so wanting to rear something, I started raising moths. I have a setup that I place females in after they emerge from cocoon to attract any "wild" moths for mating, I can then collect the eggs that she lays and raise the caterpillars to start the process all over again!

This is such an interesting entry for this contest !
I love the way you have arranged the skull < placing it in center, the grasses and pine cones add another element of interest as well as bringing another texture, the moths are well situated and they bring life as well as beauty to this arrangement .
It's impressive to read the process to arrange this one.
Well photographed with spot on focus , this image is sharp and clear and your exposure is correct, the colors and tones appear natural.
Well composed in the vertical format, well presented!I wish I had a six to award this one, it really shows your creative ability !
Very best wishes to you in this contest!

I can appreciate the work and patience you put into this image and a splendid image it is too. I like the dark earthy tones in contrast with the white of the skull. Nicely set up and taken.

What a beautiful capture and presentation of nature! The way you framed it feels intentional and balanced, and the combination of light, shadows, and colours brings an almost painterly quality to the composition. Excellent work! Sorry. I have run out of sixes. Good luck!
