I think the herons are looking very elegant when flying. Then they get the opportunity to really show of their beautiful wing span. Something that is well caught in this photo. The blue water is of course the perfect background, and I like how it also has a touch of green.
Your focus is pin sharp showing the most lovely details in this bird, and the use of light is excellent. The stop action is perfectly set, and it is not a blur to be traced at all. The colors are nice and natural.
The placement of the bird within the frame is perfect with enough space for the bird to fly into, and with an otherwise neat cropping. The angle you have used is really good for showing a bird in flight, and I think you clicked at the exact right moment to show the wings in the most favorable position. This is indeed a well taken shot of a bird in flight, and I wish you luck with the contest.
