Willie I just know that this is your work..Its stunning, if the system would allow I'd give this a six but as usual its dictating. Beautiful color work and I especially admire your background work. It is only one member I know about taking photographs like this and I think it is beautiful. I really like the color of the background. It looks really classy and especially the red beak is standing out so well against it. I am so sorry I am not allowed to give you 6 stars for this, since I think it is one of your best.
The dynamic range of light is excellent and the sharpness is outstanding. Even the high light in the shiny eye is in place, and the details of the feathers are impressive. It is so many different colors in the bird, but still this photo stands out as one with a limited pallet which I like a lot.
Both the placement of the bird within the frame and the cropping are excellent. I really wish you luck with the contest, and it would take an exceptional entry for making me not voting for this.

Fantastic bird. Although I live in Australia these days, I have fond memories of seeing a male cardinal in Chicago, Il. Beautifully caught, especially with the grub in its beak. Beautifully composed, great focusing, and the perfect background. Can't fault this. Love it.

A stunning picture of this cardinal.
All the important focal parts are nail sharp, the frame filling is really nicely done. and the dark background does emphasis the birds beautiful colours. Good job.

Cardinals have a special meaning for me, this is a great picture. Great detail, and the background effect adds a lot to focus the eye on your main subject. The birds intense look makes you just wonder about what it is thinking.
