Who's Joe Thorpe? Are you talking about Jim Thorpe? Great piece. No different then what Neo conservative have done to our president my friend. Neo conservative run the Olympics as its all about $$. You piece is a great moment in our right to freely express ourselves.

Great piece of history and background and a wonderful tribute to these men. Your art reflects a great moment in time and certainly does justice.

The bad part is this is one of my first memories. I was 4 years old. Grate contrast with the background. Good detail, shading, and color. The only problem I see is his left forearm is a little small.Grate concept for art.

I cannot agree with you more on all that you said in your notes dude. Great words and sentiment. This is an awesome piece of work. And that along with your words means I cannot think of more fitting piece of art that deserves a six. I still find it hard to believe the things the black community (and other races for that matter) have had to endure over the years simply to be accepted. I'll never forget a line I heard once in West Wing. When Charlie was talking to a black IT guy fixing his computer Just after Charlie was shot at by two white extremists. The IT guy said. "Charlie if your mum was still alive I'm sure she'd say the same thing my old dad used to say, If they're shooting at you, you know you're doing something right". I thought that was one of the most powerful lines I'd ever heard and like Charlie Tommie Smith and John Carlos did it right. Thanks again for this piece. Dave :-)

Now this is just a lovely tribute to the Olympics! I love how you positioned the guys arm and how we can't really see one side of his face. It sorta gives a mysterious yet heroic posture to him. I love how you included the Olympic rings and the torch in the background.

Nice work!
I really like your style of art! I think you could illustrate a book with this type of art. I like it and I am sure I am not the only one! Good job!

good interpretation of the scene depicted
I personally dont think the olympics is a place to hold personal protests. I remember they tried to get the Australian guy to also protest on the podium with them, but rightfully refused.
Im not sure why your olympic rings are upside down though?

check your history and oook at the phtos..all athletes including the austrailiam who got the silver in the 200 meter dash..he wore the civil rights button on the podium..he didnt raise his hand in protest becasue that symbol was from the black panther, meaning black power(kinda of a defiance symbol)..i agree about the politics but unfortunatley i can point of numerous games that were ionflusenced by many governments and what was going on of the times that the olympic commitee had made athlets suffer over thier own politics than the spirits of just the games.and only the games..thanks for the review.
