A super story, very interesting and I would love to explore more LOL, your book cover creation is very nice and fits perfectly to the story . Great color choice with the dark blue as base and the gold that really shines like the light in your story - super presentation, all the best for the contest

This is a great book cover for the antique book. To my understanding, this should be a digital artwork made by the artist. You better check it. I still give you six because I like the cover very much!

Thank you!!! Thank you a lot for your great help! It was posted into the wrong category [photo] by mistake. It is a digital composition [aka digital mixed media] were several different digital techniques were used. I have written the story and the paintings as this entire digital composition are my own work. Thank you again!!!

First I looked at the photo, and then I read the notes. What a vivid imagination you have Cleo. I also like the way you described how you attacked the photo with a zillion filters. I have to admit this gave me a good laugh.
I think the cover of this book is showing the same vivid imagination and also great creativity. The little dragon is painted really well, and I like the rough look of this book. Like it was read hundreds of times before. I see very fine textures in the background, and with its neutral tones the vivid blues of the book cover is standing out well. This book for sure looks like it has been hidden in an attic.
What I think is a distraction is the pixels around the lettering, and also some grain in the background. Especially at the top. I do however appreciate that this could be intentional and part of the texturing. I suspect that this is a completely different take of this contest, but I had very much the same idea myself. Instead of just showing the cover, also show the whole book.
I think this is well though out and a good example on how to mix medias successfully. I do however think the lettering could need some adjustments. Still I wish you luck with the contest.

Thank you very much for your throughout and encouraging review and the good wishes. The pixels around the letters and the grain in the background are not intentional, nor show the up in the original. I think it has something to do with the metallic colors I used, as with the resizing and the upload to FAR. I should have checked on it, because it is happen to me a couple times before with my paintings. For some reason the metal colors I use seem not be compatible with the resizing and the upload program. I just was not thinking for that problem, because it is a mixed media piece. I forgot it has painted parts. I hope I can fix it. I will have to transfer the original into my paint program, resize it to PTG format, turn the metal content down, resize in ArtRage [my paint program] and save as JPEG. It works for paintings, but I do not know if it works for mixed media, I just hope it will.
-
You are most welcome. I don't really know why some images change so much when they are loaded up, while others are not effected at all. I do hope you will be able to fix this though.
-
I am still trying. That teaches me not to sprinkle metal paint into mixed media. I should be more careful when I switch between programs.

I am going to enter this contest as well, and then I found out the category is digital art. This is mixed media, isn't it ? Just now I am struggeling to find out if also digital creations are allowed, or if it has to be a digital painting. Just thought I should let you know.
-
No it is not an mixed media. I was posted into the wrong category by mistake. I just found out about, because Mino told me. [I guess I would have saved m a lot of member dollars if I would have paid more attention. I just changed the category which made the picture jump to number 1 on the listing page.]
You should not have any problem to enter the contest. Digital Creations are listed as Digital Art by FAR. For my understanding that is what usual is called Integrated Mixed Media Art, but at FAR known as Digital Creation or Digital Collage [I always found those categories confusing] For my understanding this is a kind of digital mixed media, which uses more subjects from more then one or all kinds of art traditional art, fractals, vector, deviant, poser etc, photos, clip art, digital painting, and probably some I forgot or do not know about. Anyway, You should not have any problem with your Digital Creation.
-
I have now actually made two. One is a digital painting where only text was added, and the other is a digital creation where I have used stock photos. Now I am not sure which of them to use. LOL
-
I wished I could help you with that decision, I know I won't be easy. I know your work, and how many thoughts you put into your creations. I am sure both are outstanding. I hope you will post the second creation. I am curios to see both!
Bey the way I found out, even a digital painting; where only text is added, is a digital creation, because of the use of to different medias: the paint program and the editing program. LOL
-
LOL - I give up.
-
LOL! You may give up, but post anyway!
Its funny. I just checked the other entries. Obviously nobody is sure of the category.
All entries so far are Digital Compositions I think, but only two [including mine] are posted as such. The others are posted as:
Digital painting 2D Art [two]
Traditional Art
Mixed Media Traditional Art
Fantasy Digital Art
I give up to! LOL

How very creative to not only create a very nice photograph of your book to come, but also the synopsis of the book itself in the artist notes. I think you did a great job of capturing the audience with the beginning of the story and the look of the book just really seals the deal. I really think you will do great, good luck with the book. Keep us posted on how that goes.

Kinda hard to comment as I'm just not sure as to what you are trying to represent with this piece...a Photograph? Painting? I like the blue of the cover.... the lettering is OK.
UPDATE: My apologies, I have only been on this site a week and I have yet to see where a piece that was posted was entered in a contest...I now see that and can better offer a review. As I said before I love the blue background and the "gold leaf" type border. The lettering is also well done with the small exception that a few of the letters are a bit smaller than the others in the title and gives it a bit of an off balance look. The only other thing I might suggest is that the picture might have been better with a picture of an island with the ocean around and a dragon flying in the foreground to better represent the title....otherwise overall a very well done piece to fit into the contest category!

Thank you for your time looking at my work.
Did you read either, the contest rules or my comments? This is neither, a photo or painting. Both photography and painting were use in a special technique, in order to invent an entire new work of art. It is an entry for an special contest with an special theme. I would be thankful if you would specify what you think is technically and/or artistically wrong with this piece. This would be more helpful than a verbal attack on my work. I expect the clarification of your review.

I just got your update, and I am thankful that you think about the painting on the book cover. Sadly your suggestion would not work with my story. Please realize that this is NOT a stand alone piece, solely created for the
-
the contest, but as I wrote in my comments, a illustration for a book, which happen to fill the requirements of the contest

Thank you for updating!
