'Mud Season' at my Place

Wow, I have only seen roads like this in WV where my mom is from. Hers goes straight up a mountain and then curves an up more.
They do not drive that road but about 4 to 5 months a year and the rest is walking. I could not imagine that every morning to go to school and always have a second pair of clothes just in case of falling down the mountain.
Now you have a very clear and focused photo with natural colors. (hee hee)As natural as mud can be.
Nice shot, thanks for sharing life in the real world.

I like your sense of humor Minnie....lol MUST be easy going in nature during 'mud season'- as I think you can tell. Thank you so much for having a look at my muddy mess. Do appreciate the fine review. Oh and I do laundry EVERY day during mud season....so you were right about dirty clothes too...lol

Well, with this post I am no longer greatly concerned about Deb's making it through the winter. If you can write this eloquently about the '5th' season then I think you are going to make it to flower blooming time - congratulation on "gitten thru!".

This shot reminds me of the road to my sisters house -lol.

This is a very well composed shot with descriptive and eloquent artist notes.

The exposure captures all the elements of this road very well.

The focus, lighting and framing are superb.

This is another of your usual excellent photography - keep on rockin ... OMP

P.S. You may recall a few lines I wrote bout a trip to my sisters house in mud season? That has morphed into a short story. If you like I can email the text.

Oh OMP that very twisted weather man we all watch on Ch.3 said something on the noon weather today about 3-5" of snow this weekend in northern areas!!! Oh GOOD LORD! lol The garden beds are still buried but as you can see from my photo here the snow is melting back along the edges.....maybe I dreamed the whole "more snow coming bit??" Yeah, if only. Anyway, you're a dear for giving this piece such a wonderful review. Thank you so much and PLEASE please DO send me your short story. I would love to read it.

Hi Deborah. oh wow you weren't joking about the mud season were you... omg what a driveway.. brings back familiar memories of when I lived in the thick of the country myself.. fabulous shot with the best angle possible to really capture the beauty of your mud infested road... that leads in and out of your property. . first time I have seen your beautiful garden denuded of snow.. and what a joy to see some green foliage once again. . the picture really gives me a great indication of the dense forest that you drive by to get onto the main road... wonderful... so rich in timber .. the bird life must be amazing in there.. and your dog must go crazy when the snow melts and he gets to go roaming .. and now back to the roadway.. love the muddy pools of bluish water that are scattered throughout that rich brown muddy surface.. the offer the thought that above there is a nice blue sky reflecting back into the puddles.. How boggy is the driveway to walk through.. and does it tend to harbor mosquitoes ... or is it still to freezing for them to even exist at this time of year.. The snow on either side of road offers rather a nice contrasting purity to that dirty mud hue.. and the reddish brown damaged grasses actually look rather attractive against that white blanket. So much regeneration to occur, but I imagine once the snow is melted away, and the sun shines daily,, growth just reappears like magic.. it must be a wonderful sensation to watch growth emerging from everywhere... Great lighting and excellent exposure offer perfect visual display of your roadway Deb... may it soon become usable in the not too distant future.. Do you leave a vehicle on the outside so you can travel to get food supplies while the mud settles down. Thanks for sharing this intriguing moment of time in a world that gets snow covered during winter.. a very fascinating photo that just wants to embace the coming of spring.. a sheer delight to review and share a different take on your beautiful property.. happy smiles from mel

Oh it is wayyyyy too cold for bugs of any kind yet Mel. Hell, even the birds that leave for the winter haven't returned yet. So.....the mud is long gone by the time there are any mosquitoes around....thankfully. In another few weeks all that old dead brown grass you see here along the edges will start greening up.....although the rather twisted weather man said today that we were going to get 3-5" of snow this weekend! OMG Seriously??? lol But it won't last long. The sun is very warm this time of year. My garden beds are still buried but REALLY hoping I'll start to see them too in another couple of weeks. It's a long process getting over winter in this part of the world! Walking btw, in this mud is challenging- to say the least.....and VERY messy...and you're spot on about the car. Stays out at the other end for about a month ...until things dry up. I try to stock up on groceries etc BEFORE mud season. Timed it wrong on occasion and ended up putting groceries on a snow sled and dragging it through the mud.....lol Good thing I love it here so much or THAT would have made me move. Thank you again Mel for your attention to detail. You're a peach!!! (as I've told you before...lol)

From the vividness of this photo I can imagine the despair of trying to muck thru this seemingly frigid mess. Well done conjuring imagination with your photo

You get used to it SA. Mud usually lasts a month or a little less.....I enjoy the other eleven months enough to make up for the hassle....and the mess of mud season. Happy to hear I stirred your imagination w/ this post...lol Thank you for having a look.

Wow. This is a four wheeler's dream. The more mud the merrier. Did the county ever consider throwing shredded rubber tires into the mud before it got hard again? I bet the kids love being out of school but what happens if there is an emergency ?
Bright side...Spring is about to approach.

I always cross my fingers that there's not a fire or some other sort of emergency during mud season Linda....lol My home would burn down b/c no-one could get down here. I do have a 4wheeler (w/ chains) It is one messy ride out to the other end! Do appreciate you checking out my muddy piece here. Thank you so much. ....and yes, spring is finally just around the corner. YEAH!!!

It was 82 degrees today and low 80's tomorrow. We go from winter to summer with a few days if Spring.

Fabulous notes, Deb. We can really appreciate what mud season is all out beyond the great visual shot here. The clarity and detail really bring the reality of it home. As always perfectly composed. So nice to see more green and less snow. Ed.

Pardon me while I laugh. We have a mud season in Oregon too, but it lasts all winter. As for the photo; well, it plainly shows the ruts, the new rocks and the abundance of water that has accumulated in the road. It is an odd subject, a realistic subject and a delightful photo. Thank you for sharing.

Oh boy does it Amy. Slogged all the way out to the other end this afternoon and believe me.....it gets MUCH worse than this. OMG. But flowers come next.....so I'm good while this mess dries up. Thank you for checking this one out. You're a peach!

"In just springtime when the world is mud luscious" ee cummings. Not a very inviting scene even though it is nicely composed and shown in very nice colors.

This much massive mud matched the mood of the moment! Whew!

If this is a prelude to your garden's blooming phase then never mind this unsightly sight!

Bright lighting shows so much of this muddy contrast with the immaculate snow...
The visually cool reflection of the blue sky lends a redeeming value to this horrendous road scape.

Have a warm day & I know you're anxiously expecting the flowers to flourish!
