I love his little expression, like he's saying "What?" as he's caught eating the nut. I like the background. I appreciate he can be clearly seen, no camouflage. Good luck with the contest.

Comment from Lucien van Oosten
I think the colors used for the most part creates a very good color harmony between squirrel and supporting elements within the piece.
The one thing that seems to pull the eye away from the squirrel and what the is doing, is that ungodly green shape representing a cut off branch. I am thinking that area should be some color of brown, light or dark brown, so it becomes a part of the composition rather then a detractor to the flow of the artwork.
In humble opinion it needs to be corrected toned way down, it could be a underlying color there, but not this bold brass color.
Everything else works..,
Have yourself a good day,
Cheers.

Thank you very much for your critical but encouraging review. :o)
I am not sure which area you mean. All branches above are dark. The green areas are leaves, foliage behind or in front of the branches in the background. Below the Squirrel is a big branch cut off. The wound of the tree there is sealed with a blue past. Some of the sealant run into the bark. Do you mean this area? If I ignore the sealant, I guess the area would not just brown but need year-rings, of different size and color. Please, specify which area you mean.
A nice day for you!
Cheers!

Sorry for not being more specific.
Yes, the cut off branch. as an artist we need to sometimes make sure it works visually.
based on reading the other reviews I must seem a little harsh to you. it is not that I disagree with what others have written about the squirrel and leaves and pose, but it could so much be better.
that green there in the cut branch dominates the image.
What is see in the green sealer area, are indication of a rough cut, could be done in light browns, brown grays, tans.
Take care.
Try what I suggested and then let me know if it makes for a better cohesive total composition.
Cheers,
Lucien

Cleo,
A fantastic digital painting of this Squirrel with a nut held in it's front hand-like paws, the light from below highlighting it's beautiful coat & catching the sparkle in it's eye. The sunlight glowing through the tree's canopy creates the perfect backdrop. Created by your artist's eye for composition, very skilful digital painting techniques, beautiful choice & application of your colours in bringing this squirrel to life.

This is a excellent design! It looks so natural I can almost reach out and actually touch the squirrel.
Good use of colors and lighting the subject is well positioned and the entire picture has really good depth to it.
Keep up the great work!

it looks very life like indeed and really cool in the position, situated high up on a truncated branch. it is the very same type as the mixed breeds in the U.K. previously we only had red squirrels, until the invasive grey (well) invaded. at some stage they must have let their bodies unite and the rest is a (sort of) natural history. i think we only have pure red ones up in scotland.

This is a wonderful digital rendering of the squirrel. The light and shadows, colours and the composition have worked out well. Good effort!

a beautiful beige orange color: I found squirrels always so funny looking with their big eyes; unfortunately we don't have any in our area; excellent sharp focus;
