This is beautiful bird photography. You have timed it well. The light, and the composition have worked well and you have caught the winter flight of the Mallard Drake very well. Good effort.

Brrrrr I'm not sure I'd stick around how ever many chunks of bread they bring!
This photo is lovely, a bit different from your usual style somehow, it looks very like a painting.
Your composition is perfect, giving him plenty of space to fly into and the frozen white background is a great backdrop.
The colours of the mallard are very natural looking, I'm pleased you didn't over-saturate them as some might have been tempted to. A very beautiful shot Pat.
I do have one question though, what is the white thing hanging down in front of his tail? It looks like a frozen leg, but it can't be, surely?

Thank you so much Charlotte ! Lol when I first downloaded it , I thought it was some type of a flight feather I called Fish and game , they first thought it could be a bent forward tail feather, I asked a member here and she thought it was ice , I think it was a feather that had somehow stuck to the bird so I removed it .

This is simply beautiful, with the frosty background and this beautiful mallard. The green on his head is lovely; his form is lovely; the way you captured this from the side is lovely.

You are welcome. What a clear, clean photo that focuses on the mallard. Another sharp photo. Thanks.

Doesn't matter how many signs "do not feed birds" people still think it is alright.
I love this capture it is a very artistic image with the frosty background as the duck takes off. The focus is sharp and the colors are very true.

Thank you so much Mary, the first time I saw these ducks during the winter I was so sad seeing them laying in the snow , the signs are there , do not feed birds , yet people come with their stale bread anyway. It makes me sick! This was a super cold day with ice fog in the air, I could feel it on my face!

Yeah,that's how all the
publicly accessible duck ponds around here turned into filthy 'holes' filled with feathers,'germy' water and soggy chunks of stale bread after just a short time!
But that's enough of my moanin' and groanin'!
This is a fine looking picture!
The 'frosty' background really makes it a 'Stand Out' piece! : D
'Good Show',my friend!

Amazing photo. I just showed it to someone else. It looks like a painting, but the feet and wings are so detailed. Which is also amazing given that he is in flight. The snowy background is also breathtaking. I'm out of extra stars or I'd sure give this 6 stars. Very nice.

Pat, we have the same mallards on Long Island, so beautiful with their bright green facial and crown feathers. This is amazing, you were able to capture this on against the wonderful white snow covered bushes and trees, Very nicely presented. Ray

I have never seen anything like this before Pat. Love this drake taking flight against such a beautiful background. It looks like he is surrounded by crystals. Love the angle of the rising duck. The beautiful focus and lighting you achieved creates a breathtaking scene. So wish I had a 6 for you! :o) Nancy

Absolutely gorgeous photograph of this mallard as he is taking of. It is as a picture from children's book where the duck is delivering a nice message for the good night.
The background is so beautiful Pat; although I do realize it is so hard to take a good picture with the cold temperatures.
Thank you for sharing this, sorry I am out of sixes.

Pat,
A beautiful picture of the Mallard drake in flight with the snow covered trees in the background that make a sharp contrast to the Drake's iridescent green head, chestnut coloured breast, pale breast & underside of his wings & orange feet. Artistic composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus.
