Yes I agree it's a good one. It wouldn't have been so good if it had been a male.
Lovely focus on the bird...as always.
Although the males are very striking I like the contrasts of these females better I think.

A lovely image and a great idea for Christmas cards-when I saw this, I immediately thought of the Garth Brooks song-The Gift-if you don't know it -you can google it for the lyrics- it is about a little wounded bird who is rescued by a little orphan girl, and nursed back to health and presented as her gift at Christmas Eve services -beautiful Christmas song-the initial impact for me is the light in the eye and the expression-the image is tack sharp with good detail in the feathers- good luck with the contest-

Yes I did. I liked it too!
When I was a boy, we had some chickens. There was a wire cage for them, sides and top covered. I would put feed in there and wait, when I saw birds in there I would run toward them. I had them traped. I crawled in to catch a beautiful red Cardinal. I will never do that again, he bit a pung out of me. Like most of the lessons I've learnsd the hard way.
