I'll just go ahead and say it - full body shots of herons are a dime a dozen, but this is a lovely, well-composed shot that looks like you waited for this exact opportunity. I love the motion and grace, and the sharpness is dead on. Amazing shot!

For what was probably a quick grab shot this is a great image. The judge in me wants to complain about the cropped wings but I will concentrate on the sharp detail and wonderful colours. Good detail in both the upper and underside of the wing feathers. Mitch

I love movement in my photos... You have done just that! Great shot! As for the composition I would liked to have seen the completion of the shot, Im left to wonder are we taking off or landing...

I like the shot of his head and neck leading his body and wings from the edge of the frame. So sharp on the head, neck, and wing feathers. A good photo for the flight contest and theat beautiful green water makes a great backdrop for this big bird. Excellent Photo!

Considering you grabbed this one as he surprised you it is incredibly sharp and clear. Nice details and colors along the wings and feathers. It is such a shame you could not get the whole wings in the frame. But then you were not expecting his return, they don't usually do that. Nice exposure and DOF also.
