This is a really beautiful tribute to your brother. I lost two loved one's in 2011, so this has a beautiful meaning to me too. I love the colors and light, against the black. Very beautiful form and composition. Thank you for sharing.

This is certainly a nice tribute to a loved one. The tulip has beautiful colors and lying against the black background, all its beauty becomes more evident.

your photo like death rifts off into the ethereal .. for some the dof might not sharpen the wholeness of the rose another way to look at the picture is in more of a metaphorical way ... from clarity and the beauty of the rose bloom which is for a fleeting time for use to embrace to its fullest and thus the stem reminds us where we all cam from and return

A fitting tribute and very well photographed,. To my mind fitting, that it looks like it is lying down. Also, Oct 5th is my daughters birthday so I wont be forgetting in a hurry!Nice work!

Dear Soulfeeder,
This is really a very 'giving' photograph, it reaches out in beauty and your artist's notes are a good reminder for us all to value each other, including our neighbors and "THOSE" people down the street.
The subject of your shot is nicely composed I really like the bend into the frame for it speaks to me saying "here I am, beautiful, look at me".
So, your composition is smack on as is your cropping with comfortable negative space all around, nicely balanced.
I feel your exposure is good with fine saturation of colour keeping it naturalistic in feel.
You are trying to show us the beauty of this rose, right? Why did you chose that dof? It is blurred in the foreground petals, mid ground petals, and stem. That blurry effect destroys the strength of the image...what you are trying to show viewers ought to be in sharp focus. That is why I'm holding back half a star.
Hand held with an aperture of 5.6 is partly to blame the way to do it is with tripod (especially if this was shot indoors in a vase).
Also for more strength for the image I would suggest you take out that slight band of colour in the lower left background and make the background all black, that will really pump out the flower.
You can also use a black cloth background to hold behind a rose(flower) if shooting at home. I learned that trick thanks to another FAR member, you might want to try it.

I just want to let you know "I love you." I took this picture, when I have just started using the camera, and was completely "naive" about technicalities. I am taking notes, and learning from you, Life is but a dream. Been blessed, receiving some personal thoughts, too. Took this picture outside, and nighttime. Thanks for genuine and detailed review, even for the rating. It is always good to see your name.

Not at all. 4 and 1/2 is as good as 6, with "free" photography classes, from someone as GREAT as you, Olga. Lots of insights, too. I am still very NAIVE about photography, but will strive to learn....

Gosh I can so sympathize with you as I try to tell close ones to respect and do as much as they can for their mum cause I lost mine too early. I have one older sibling and yes, it would be devastating. Beautiful rose for obviously a beautiful person.
