By the looks of the water and the feathers, it must have been little windy which made a beautiful capture. Love the feathers all ruffled. Just the cutest! Beautiful lighting really makes this pelican pop off the page!

Outstanding capture of Breeding White Pelican Gracie ~Lu!
Superb white balance control , zero noise because you choose to grow in your work, sharp focus and Great eye clarity.
Love the sun's glow, blue water and his Perfectly detailed white feathers.
Every thing I look for in bird Photography is here. You did not sacrifice shutter speed and have the correct Kelvin Temp allowing you a low ISO so you get Perfect clarity.
You are a fine bird photographer GG!!

Talk about a bad hair day. Great photo. I often have time photographing white birds as the white gets washed out and looses detail but you have captured this well with lots of detail in the feathers. The water is beautiful.

Lol! Thank you for your nice comments. Shooting white can be complicated, there is a delicate balance in portraying the brilliance while preserving the detail in the plumage. With white it is important not to let too much light into the lens, either by increasing the shutter speed or using a higher aperture setting. I find that using exposure compensation helps too when I want a fast shutter speed.

Thank you so much for the advise. I will try to put it to use the next time i am shooting something white..

Cool shot Grace. We just returned from four months in Mexico where one of the places we stayed was Ajijic, on Lake Chapala. There were hundreds of White Pelicans migrating through. They are magnificent with the black tips on the wings. I could never get close enough with my iPhone to get a good shot like this one. Definitely could have use a real camera with a long lens. Nice shot here with the whites being just right and the details in the feathers right on. The deep blue water adds such a nice background. Great job Grace ~ Steve

Sounds like a wonderful sight to see! Their wings are beautiful. I did get a few shots of them in flight that I might post.
I hope you had a nice time in Mexico. Four months sounds wonderful. Thank you for taking a look at this and for your nice comments!

Thank you! This is the first time I have seen these guys in Minnesota, so it was pretty exciting.

Your welcome, it was really strange seeing them in Wisconsin, I grew up there and we never had them, someone told me they are making a comeback, dale

I like the way you have captured the wind ruffling his feathers in this scene. The reflected light on his bill and feathers adds interest as do the gentle ripples in the water.

A nice shot. The exposure for the white plumage is nice and the water is beautiful. I have always wondered about that lump on the top of their bill.

Thanks Mike! Sange told me that that bump appears during breeding season then it sheds by the end of the season. Iread up on it and I think it's really weird :)
