Very interesting capture here. There were parts of the background amongst the legs that I feel should have been B&W, too, but I didn't count off for it (red arrow). I like that you put part of the flowers in color, too, but I would have liked a few more blossoms in color (blue arrow). Please remember that these are just opinions. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you Raine, Especially for your inputs. I tryed out many different versions. To pot the legs or even the to much reflecting big guy on top in B&W didn't look. I wished more color on the flowers too. You are right there but these flowers were the reason to try the saturation because the had lost all color to the light. Most of them were blown out white. I have a version were I had painted the flowers bot painting is just not photography and I wanted it so documentary as possible.

Thank-you so much for your detailed explanation. A lot of the time, the image that we have to work with is much worse than what we present, and what we present is the best that we could do with the initial image. Very nice job for what you had.

Thank you. It is right. We have to work with what we have at the time. I had something else planned with this image but since we stuck still in Texas I had to change my plans for the contest. Most of my pictures are at home.

An amazing shot. I particularly like the selective colouring. A very good close up image. You are lucky to have such creatures living near you to photograph!

Thank you for your generous review. But it is not luck to have these creatures close by, way it is if it is just a couple. But these were swarming. Thousands of them. They eat every plant in their way. The palms as the flowers, even nibbled on our roofs.

Nice ECU with creative coloring on display here.

I really like the colors in the foreground up against the b&w treatment in the background.

My only suggestion, and only a suggestion, would be to have retained the colors on the rest of the bouganville branches and the grasshopper in the upper left-hard quadrant of the shot. I believe your intent was to color all of the foreground and leave the background b&w, correct?

Otherwise, a technically sound creative approach to this nature shot.

    Thank you very much.
No it wasn't my intention to distinct the foreground from background. I did the saturation to get red of to much business and flashing light and [don't tell] to cover overblown blossoms in the foreground. The light conditions were very difficult, most of the above foliage already eaten. Wished it would have been a bougainvillea, but it is Mexican Creeper, These blossoms reflect sunlight as the Locust. The blossoms left as the blossoms above the insects were already white looking. I had tryed first to turn the background down but it didn't work. The Locust above was the most complicated. I turned the light don on him separately but it looked unnatural in color, Wished I could have done something with the big guy in the middle.
in color so I tricked again

Love what you have done with this shot. The colors and light are very vibrant and stand out so well against the black and white background. Wonderful angle for the shot and the way those bad old locust have arranged themselves almost like triangles is great.

This a wonderful photo. The shadow and light pattern really pumps energy to the piece. I can't help but feel that it could be cropped tighter and cutting down on the amount of background. It is a beautiful piece as it is , and its only my opinion. Thanks for sharing yor work. Artsey

Thank you so much for your generous review and your input. I had same feel as you and tryed about 20 different variations of the cut but came back to this one.
