It certainly works well for me. You have used the white to show the rolling waves as they crash to shore. You have a wonderful reflection from the moon as it glows upon the white caps as they come in. Very nice detail in the water with the splash.

Cannot say I have seen an oil painting in monochrome before now. Have to say I am very expressed with this work. The black, grey and white tones are very striking but so is the composition. Lots of action in the water with big waves crashing all around. Certainly have captured a lot of drama in this scene. The sky is very attractive too and looks like night skies I have seen. The moon is full but there are clouds in the sky. Its glow is casting watery light onto the ocean. Good Luck in the contest.
