I really like the close and personal approach Willie, and how well you have captured the bright and shiny eye. The bird is posing for you in the most lovely way, and with the nicely softened background, the bird is standing out in the most excellent way. I also think the light is falling on the bird in such a fine way.
Your focus is spot on and sharp showing such clear and well defined details in every part of the bird. Also the great textures of the feathers are well brought out, and the exposure is perfect. I also appreciate the very nice and natural colors.
The tight cropping works really well, and the bird has got a perfect placement off to the right. This of course makes for a good and well balanced composition. Indeed a beautiful and well taken photo with an excellent DOF, and I wish you luck with the contest.
