Great shot. I have the same question about the grainy look. I find it only happens with birds. It might have to do with the feathers. Herons are the worst. I like the colors and I like the background,it accents the bird. It's a great shot.

Good artist notes. Nice background and stump. Your Cardinal looks good to me. Not too grainy for my rating. Love the action you got. Beautiful wing span and tail like a fan. colors and details are nice to me. Love the eye and bright red head. 'Enjoyed.

The experiment worked! Birds have to be the hardest to capture even at rest. This is fantastic. What a beautiful bird. This is certainly worth the wait to capture.

Nice shot! For the grainyness - called noise, you can try reducing it in Photoshop if that is what you use. Look under Filters. Still, this is very well done and interesting picture.

Initial impact; Just a great shot with all the feathers out and in action. Lighting is very good. Action is landing on the post. Cardinal landing presentation. Color harmony is good. Center of interest is the cardinal. Cropping is not to tight, good. Focus is sharp on those things not moving. Depth of field is blurring out the background and that is where I see the most noise issue. In PS I would have used the quick select tool and isolated the blurred background, then smooth that out. Just enough to make the noise less noticeable. I would also check what the ISO the biggest creature of noise. Story telling is in the title and artist's notes.

thanks. I had my iso set on auto. Someone else told me to try iso 200. I am going to try that and shot at 750-1000.
