This is an amazing close up of the robber fly. Lighting and focus excellent showing great detail in its markings. I like the angle you took this from showing the shadow from the sun. The splash of green adds nice contrast. Very good composition.

WOW. He is so ugly, he is beautiful. Impressed by the clarity and definition and its not even a macro lens. Macro, in my own experience, is new to me and something to look forward to. Carry on ....

Thank you so very much! I have a macro lens but I have better luck with the 300mm. You have to get very close with the macro and would not be able to get this!

Very interesting. Just bought an good quality antique macro to play with - but not the sort of thing you carry around with you in your pack. Did you slow the shutter speed or was this guy pose and hold his position for you?

I was shooting butterflys and he just landed in front of me! I just turned the lens on him and he just sat there and posed for me! It was the first and last time I ever saw this ugly bug.

Thats some lens you've got there then! Lovely and sharp and well framed (if a little tight at the back end). Good colour and light and an intersting subject. Does he sting?

Thank you so very much! This was my first look at this thing. I know he is a preditor and someone said he kills bees so I am sure I don't want to hold it or having it crawl on me! I bet he either stings or has a bad bite!

I don't know how I missed this one! BUT, it looks like an alien from outer space. Excellent macro of this bug as it shows so much of that body that has a feahered look like a bird!

You sure get great detail and color with you nature captures. I like the compound eye of this one. It must be your lighting that gives you outstanding work Another great thing about the car you have a built in tripod.

A really great photo. It appears from what I've seen that your technique of shooting from the car window works very well. There is another nature photographer on the site that shoots from a kayak. It appears that both methods are very disarming to animals of all kinds. I think part of it is that they don't hear as much noise as well as not seeing you. In any case, this is an excellent photo of this critter.
