Great job! You have really captured the anticipation in this shot very well. His stare is sharp and he's focused on his goal. I also love your crop.

What a great shot of the Crane.Composition is good with only what is needed shown. With the head on the third and the beak creating a diagonal you have created a strong image.Mitch

There seems to be a loss of quality in the picture; the result of a lesser camera or overcropping. It appears grainy and out of focus (not terribly, but enough to keep it from gallery standards). Good mix of color and tonal range, although there are few areas of high contrast to really make the piece stand out. This is accomplished slightly by the bright feathers of the heron's face, but that does little to bring anything else out. The entire picture appears a little muddy. Colors blend and are all fairly similar in tone. Doesn't help the image to stand out. Needs more contrast.
You caught a cool moment. I love these herons, they are beautiful birds. But the photograph itself is lacking in the areas that make a great photo stand out. Keep them coming, the amount of improvement needed in order for you to catch a great photo is negligible. Just missed it on this shot.

This is a fantastic initial impact image. A great close-up of the heron. He must have been hungry to let you get so close.
Good composition, focus, detail and DOF. Well done. Good luck in the contest.

A very high impact photo with a background that helps create a menacing mood for this very dramatic moment. A really great capture.

I like the framing and angle. Lights and darks blend well together. It is clear he is waiting for some sort of treat. Nicely done and well presented, John
