This is a beautiful red cardinal. I like the angle of the shot. I like the position of the bird on the perch. I like how the bird is framed by the branches and needles. Good luck in the contest.

I think the poster edges works well in this image. It is especially effective on the background and add extra textures to the foreground branch the bird is sitting on. You probably loose a bit of the redness in the bird though. It seems like your original image was nice and sharp with lovely details in the face and the feathers of the bird. I also like very much your use of light. It works so well with the back light in the background. The colors are very nice. I think the pose of the bird is really good, and the way you have placed it within the frame works well together with a neat cropping. I think this is a nice composition with good balance and DOFF. I wish you good luck with the contest.
