Wow. Never saw a cardinal this close. What a beautiful beak accompanied by a clear and well focused eye. Eyes, to me, will always be an important factor in wildlife photography along with clarity, contrast, color harmony and the rest.

I agree with you - the clarity and detail of your focus on her face make a beautiful portrait of the female cardinal. Lovely color harmony as well.

First off, may I congratulate you on the win!! A stunning capture and I will get to this point sooner or later!!l.o.l. The focus is amazing showing all the intricate detail of the cardinals face and eyes! The eye highlight makes the image pop right out at you bringing her to life! Framing is outstanding!! No wonder here why she won Willie!!

What can one say, this is a beautiful close up of the bird's head!!! You chose a very good f/stop and shutter speed. The most important thing here is the eye. I has to be tack sharp with great detail to make the subject live. You did a beautiful job of this!! I love the the reflections in it. You have extremely good details in the bird's feathers and excellent details around the eye!!! The colors in the image are very good. You have very good density, saturation and contrast. An excellent cropping. I love the way you captured the bird with the sunflower seed in its mouth. This photograph deserves a 6, but I have none left to give. This is an excellent close-up of the bird's head. Well done indeed!!!Take care,
Cheers,
Bill

This is an awesome picture the way you have it so close up of her. The detail you see in this is amazing. I like the way you caught her with a seed in her beak. Everything about this picture is excellent. Good luck in the contest.

Right in my eye. Much closer than I normally see these birds, even through my 400mm lens.
Needless to say, good sharpness, wish that it had extended to the tip of his beak, but then I also wish that there was a Santa Claus, and know that this is about as good as it gets.
Great detail, all of the fine feathers and their interest ring patterns have been captured. The colors are nice, like how she has a bit of eye liner on to match her beak. Good composition and nice exposure.
Is that a sunflower seed in her mouth?

I do like how you have filled the frame with this bird. Good closeup, especially with that eye. Although the beak with the seed is a tad soft, this still makes an outstanding closeup. You can even count the feathers!!

I have never seen a bird so close - your photo is so sharp so one can see all the details - it seems that Cardinal birds lives in America - I wish we had them here in Sweden as well - especially the male-bird has such beautiful color and I have seen many of them on this site- A wonderful photo - thanks for sharing!
