There's such emotion in this piece! The blue rings seems to me to be a stand or platform. The starburst drives the motion (and probably emotion) of the image. At first blush, it almost strikes me as a statuette.

Moon, well done. Very compellng compostion. Like a moth to a flame the eye is drawn in the compostion. Feasting on the light. The blue base really sets the peice down nicely and holds it together.
