Thia is a nice character shot; I guess these guys are going to play for the tourists. I wonder why you gave it the black and white treatment? I would have thought this would look good in color.

Thank you, I appreciate your review very much. The photo is in black and white because the contest it is posted in required black and white photos only.

Mmmm... the shadows more longer? It's 5:00 pm in the afternoon, I'm afraid the shadows won't get much longer, soon the sun is behind the buildings. Twilight starts about 5:30. Night falls fast here far south.

That is an interesting picture of the mariachi en route to work. The picture illustrate the area nicely. It is well composed and attracts attention. I do think that it is too dark (except for the sunlight on the walkway) and the men's faces should be lightened.

Oh boy! I have to think about this. I tought the street is to blown out [to ;light] I was even considering to crop most of that lighted area off.
Thank you I appreciate your comments and your input very much.

Vey cool shot of the mariachi going to work. Very interesting and very unusual. I think it should be cropped in the front. Too much in the foreground, otherwise - really cool.
Good luck in the contest, Cleo.

Ups! I have to think about this. I was thinking I should be cropped in the back to get red of the hot spot, this annoing to much of reflective light there.
wouldn't I loose the any day casualty, that nothing important happen when I cut right. I tought these people by ignoring the mariachi gave that feel. Don't get the mariachi a flair of something special when these background people aren't there? I tought these shadows already draw to much attention for a every day street shot. Did I got the call of the contest wrong?

Very interesting capture, full of character.
Good angle and presentation of the subject.
Only I'd want to see a bit more detail to the two men in the middle.
Love the way shadows are cast on the pavement in front of these men as they walk.
This shot looks very well being black and white.
Good luck to you in the competition and thank you for sharing.

Thank you, That's a taffy. More detail, Mmmm... I think I would do too but how archive that? getting the shadows this way means to shoot from an higher place in a downward angle [for my only 5ft anyway. Fortunately I have a flexible focus so I can set the focal point in the middle between shadows and man, but when I do that I loose some detail on both. If I set the focus on one of the man I get more detail but I have to change my angle and loose on the shadows. I could multi point focus, but again I have to change the angle. The automatic may would it make more clear but beside that I dislike automated settings I think it would flatten the picture. What do I miss here. I think in circles. Please would you tell me.

Yes, I guess it's not easy to achieve both with a camera only. When I get a shot on which I don't have all I want - I normally touch it up in Photoshop. Some people don't like amending camera originals, but I use the tool. If you don't mind Photoshop - I can tell you how I would have done it there.

    Take care,
    Nadia

Thank you for your offer. Sorry I don't own photo shop but i know what you mean. I probably could have done it with my programs. Probably I would if it wouldn't be have been the entry to the contest were If I remember right mixed media was not permitted.

Anyhow your shot is good and full of character.
After all shadow is what counts and that is well captured. Hope you do very well in this competition.

good capture. Very good framing and composition.
Great focus. good effect with the shadows, but it did take away from the fill light on their faces a bit.

Good use of B&W also.

Thanks for sharing

Thank you. That's absolutely right. But what do I do to get the fill light and the shadows without changing the angle? I couldn't find that out.

When I look at the overall effect the picture has on me, I feel it is coming alive. The two guys in animated conversation, the light and shades, the shadows all speak a story. Well done
