Really nice picture with this little girl and her unusual pat.As I see, it's a rooster.
Wonderful composition with beautiful colors of her big blue eyes and red headed rooster. It's obvious that she was posing but it doesn't matter when the picture is good.
Best regards and many more photos like this,
Mirolli

I started to give you less then a five Willie only because of the flash AND because your a really good photographer. On- camera flash just doesn't give good results for portraits. It takes the contours and shadow detail that is good and gives us heavy shadows like the one under her chin. It also creates pin light in the eyes which is better then none but not as desirable or appealing as the catch light that natural light or off camera flash provides. If necessary you can dial down your flash to give you just enough to open up the shadows but not create harsh ones. There are inexpensive softeners that you can put on your flash to help diffuse the light and those will give you nice results. But, its still a much better portrait then a lot here that HAVE received fives so there you go. The great things about this portraits are that She's adorable and all other aspects of the portrait as far as color and clarity and story telling ability are very nice.

Thank you so very much! I have learned a lot since this picture was made. Now I set my camera on "P" and set the flash on TTL auto. I also have been using my defuser on the flash. I would rather be outside to do portraits, but this was at night at a church Christmas Nativity party, so I had to use the flash. Thanks for the input!

She does look a little uncertain about posing, doesn't she? I think it makes her look protective of her pet. Unique because not many children have a chicken for a pet!

Very nice. Love her blue eyes and red hair. Her face is so radiant, I hardly noticed the chicken. Lovely portrait. Thanks for sharing.

What a beautiful little girl and the chicken is cute too! I don't know how you managed to get them to both pose for you. Chickens are not the easiest animals to photograph unless you really hold them down and the little girl looks so relaxed, not like she is holding on tight to the chicken. It is a wonderful photo and one she will really enjoy when she grows up. I know, I have a picture of myself, nothing like this, taken of me about 60 years ago holding a laying hen in front of my grandparents chicken coop. I have no idea what the occasion was, but I have on a long skirt and a Halloween mask perched on top of my head. I wouldn't part with that photo for anything. She will feel the same about this.

Thank you, she may not appreciate it now, but down the road she will treasure it like I treasure mine.
