I don't think I've ever seen one of these up close and you almost made this one look elegant and pretty with your lighting, shallow depth of field that isolates as well as rich tone. Intriguing beauty of plumage on his back.

They are ugly in the face. We also have these here in Tennessee but we also have black ended ones. Nice attention to detail.

Hi Willie,
Love the rich colors you captured. Your lighting shows off this bird beautifully. Even though the bird is ugly ut has a regal stance. Your focus on the feathers brings out an awesome sheen. I dont find a single fault with this and really enjoyed viewing it.
Wish I had a six, but since I don't please except my cyber one. :o) Helvi

Well, a beautiful shot of an ugly bird. Your capture makes it look better than he is.
Interesting how one can shoot something not so pretty and make it look better.
A fine shot, good work Willie.

You say you shot this from inside your car, and it's still pretty darn sharp. Just out of curiosity what was the shutter speed and what was the focal length of your lens. Man you must have nerves of steel. Just by rights I should have given you a six star rating. Great Shot.

Thank you so very much! 500/sec 300mm I have found that shooting from the car it serves as a blind somewhat. A lot of time they will sit still but if I get out they will be gone!

Another perfectly created image Willie.
Love the detail in the feathers. Not very pretty to look at but the do serve an important purpose.

I love the details in the feathers and the way you have captured the angle in which the bird is looking. The subtle colours also make the image compliment the background really nicely.

Yuck! These guys are so gross! But you captured it so well. Again nice dof here but I wish the focus was more on the head but doesn't take away from the pretty picture ;)

Great shot! The detail of the feathers are awesome. Thank you for the artist notes. I was wondering exactly what kind of bird this was. Very nice. Thanks for sharing.

again nice capture. good initial impact (not a pretty face) good center of interest. good technical excellence getting the clear crisp shot. good story telling ability to add to your helpful information. good lighting. like the blurred background.
