Hey pussy cat! You look pretty!
Lovely work, good colours in this and excellent use of your chalk lol I know nothing about painting and drawing so I'll just have to comment on the subject matter. It's excellent. Well done! :D

I'm seeing your work on here and from the thumbnails on the main page there is an obvious difference between this piece and the elephant that you drew (I am assuming it is also with chalk pastels). Both of these exhibit a knowledge and physical ability to portray the visual image presented quite well. You did well in transcribing them from real life to canvas. You have a very good eye.

Your skill is quite exceptional too, although the elephant piece looked a little cleaner. Cat's can be tough; hair, facial features and paws can be difficult especially with a medium that is so unforgiving. Despite all that you did a very good job on Beauty.

I feel like the balance is a little off on this piece. You could cut off 1/3 of the entire left side and not lose anything.

That aside you have some pretty good spatial balance. The tones are a little muddy; you don't have any real "dark" areas nor do you have any real "light" areas. It's all varying degrees of gray. It is possible that is the result of the photograph. If that is the case (and it often is on FAR) I suggest editing your photos before you put them on the site. It can make a huge difference in your presentation. Just add a little contrast and adjust a the brightness a little to get the photo back to where the art is.

Good contrast overall. The black fur contrasts well with the white. That creates what is called imaginary line, which is important because these lines determine the flow of your work. The eye is drawn into and around the work, and so you have good flow.

You are a very talented artist, and although I do not believe this to be the work that is best representative of your talent it shows that your worst work is still exceptional. I'm taking a break for a bit and when I return I look forward to reviewing your elephant. Have a good weekend!

Thank you so much once again for your very detailed review. Yes, I find my pastel paintings never photograph very well. I do find this frustrating and will have to try your advice. Have a good weekend.

For a drawing, this is very nice and well done. I like the way the cat is posed and I also like the face feature of the feline. She has this black mask around her eye area that kind of make her looks like a raccoon. Very cute and a good artwork.

What a gorgeous pastel of Beauty, her name suits her! I love the blue background, is that the color of the velour pastel paper? Sounds like a great paper to try. It worked perfectly here for your cat. Love the beautiful blue eyes and the richness of her fur. Nicely done.

Many thanks for your very nice comments. The velour paper is very good to use with pastels. This was actually grey and I just worked some blue into it to match her eyes. Glad you like it.

The blue is gorgeous and brings out her eyes perfectly. A very nice pastel, I'm sure cats are not easy to paint. Michelle

I painted it from a photograph as she won't stay still long enough!

So true, sometimes we're lucky to even get a good photograph as they are always on the go:)

She is a Beauty and I'll bet she rules them too! Spot on with the proportions and coloring. Good show of attitude.

Nice work.

I like this! Nice composition, love the position of the cat. The fur and eyes are great. My only suggestion would be to add some highlight or darker strokes to help to add shape. Very nice work!

Thank you very much for your kind review. I find these pastel paintings don't scan too well.

I have to agree it is hard to scan pastel. Still very nice work!

Beautiful pastel painting. I love all the textures in the cats fur. You did an excellent job on the cats expression also. Wonderful colors. The two colored face markings are quite unusual. Very pretty.
