This is a very interesting composition, but your notes were terrific. I have tried someone else's home made organic soap on an occasion. Normally I do not use soap for washing, other than when I wash my hands, and even then I prefer a liquid. I have not used a commercial soap on my face or body for so many years, I can't remember when I started using liquid cleansers. His organic soaps sound like something I would try. Your presentation fits the scene that you painted for us in your notes, rustic. His soaps look to be wrapped in a rustic manner and your presentation fits right in with the soaps. It is a very interesting photo and I like the herb you have added on the right. Thank you for the wonderful notes, they were very enjoyable as well as informative.

I love everything about this Dr. Yiannis. You really pay him a wonderful homage in the things that you have to say about him. The photograph of his herbs is somewhat lacking though.

I am going to judge this picture on its graphic merits; obviously it was not intended to be a gallery "work of art" type of photograph. As a work of graphic art (or "expressive mixed media photography") the goal is to give the viewer a visual representation of the product/experience/item that is the center of attention. In this case it is the herbs... or soaps. I can't even really say what it is in this case, I'm a little confused. You speak momentarily of Dr. Yiannis's herbs in your story, but the photo says soaps. There is actually no explanation of the photograph at all, so I am left to wonder what the images are representing.

It is a pretty shot; great contrast, it is bright and crisp. But the viewer can't tell what exactly it is. The view isn't close enough, we see a basket full of things that we are wholly unfamiliar with. Of course the text explains that these are soaps... but without that text this photograph (from a graphic representation point of view) is again confusing.

The text needs to be better oriented. It is simple and distant from the imagery. It should be part of the overall composition of this photograph. They should work together. As it stands now the text is just there, separate but apparent.

Finally the vignette crosses not only the basket (lightly, which could be forgivable) but the text. I really don't like vignette's; they don't add anything to the photograph. They can look good with a decorative vignette if they are matted and coupled with a nice frame, but for online presentation it is really detrimental to the work. It covers up your focal point, it covers up the text (notice that the Dr. 's name is brighter than the "Bio Organic Soaps"), and it throws off the balance of the entire piece. Just not a fan, you really need to have a reason to add it and it has to be planned, not just provided.

If you made it to this point I commend you; that's gotta be tough working your way through several paragraphs all dedicated to thrashing your work. I'm sorry for that. You are obviously a wonderful photographer and I am obviously pointing out opinions. I hope you understand that I don't mean anything foul, but am truly trying to be a positive addition to this site. I look forward to seeing more of your work, and promise to provide better ratings in the future!

A really heartwarming story which resonates for me on a personal level, of making and recycling and living as green as possible, thank you for sharing the story and image.

I must say I don't really get the composition. The use of the basket does not catch my attention. I like the framing. I like the background. It just doesn't capture my attention.
