Quite an interesting specimen you found there. Do not remember seeing on like this before, but then again I am not an expert. Like your big full frame composition showing the cactus warts and all. The shot has good sharpness through most of it and is well exposed. Your settings provide lots of good detail and enjoyable colour. Good work and well done!

YOu need to move this into Photography. Nicely composed and focused... good sharp, crisp details in this. Good lighting as well.

I used to have a huge cactus garden, so I appreciate the beauty of cacti.

This is an interesting shot, but unfortunately some large areas are out of focus.

I've never seen one with such a large concentration of needles on one side. That makes it an interesting subject with potential, so you might consider shooting it again.

Very sharp picture! Ha! I wonder why the concentration of barbs to one side? I think it is cropped a bit too close on top but really a neat picture!

Well, first of all I'd like to say that I really do like this shot.. the composition is excellent.. from afar it can almost be mistaken for a fuzzy pickle... love abstract potential like that! Off-center composition keeps the photo dynamic. Color contrast is great, the greens are strong and contrast nicely with both the darker background and the lighter "hairs." Exposure is good though the flash has burned out points in the frame.. I would suggest diffusing the light source and using a polarizing filter to reduce glare.

Unfortunately, in this photo there's a problem with the focus. I don't want to say it's completely "out of focus," because I don't think that's the case, instead it appears that the point of focus is in the wrong place. My eye feels like it should be drawn to an area about a third down on the cactus (where it appears closest to the camera), but is rejected by excessive blurriness. (The point of focus might be further back in the hairs?) Anyway, what I think you need is either a deeper depth of field or simply put the point of focus where you think the viewers will expect to find it. Other than that pesky problem, though, I really like this shot! Thanks for sharing!

Nice close up of the cactus. Even with a slightly soft focus the spines show up well. I like the composition and the colors. The lighting is good. I like the dark background on the right which complements the colors of the plant and add to the composition. Good macro shot.

The flash sure gave you very good light to bring out the detail. This looks like some that are in my yard. This is a very interesting cactus. I will be waiting for some interesting photos when you get back in the garden.
