I like the color palette and the visual connection of father and child.
MI have two complaints. First is about the horizontal positioning of the subject. usually, you want more space in front of the subject than behind. Since both face right, that would mean more space on right than on left. The simplest way to effectuate that here would be to crop on the left, I think half way from the left edge to the penguin's tail would be right.
the second relates to the apparent DOF. the feet look in focus, but the snow right near them seems less so. this is most noticeable in the snow to the left of poppa's tail.

i see what you mean. I have already sold this piece but since I myslef saw alot of flaws in it and I think you and another reviewer caught exactly what it was. Even though this is sold I am going to take your advice and apply the changes that you suggestd to see if that's what is making this seem off.
thanks again my friend

Well not in that setting but have seen them at the zoo but I'm afraid these weren't from photos I had taken I had to research the internet to come up with what penquins realy look like, and I did find that I changed the large penguins feet for the area, it should have been black but i didn't like the way they looked so I decided to give the big guy more northern feet , okay so no doubt he's a bit cold LOL
thanks sandy for a great review

yes, it does remind me of happy feet as well, and it is nicely done. however, it could be done better.

I appreciate you taking the time to write a reiew but if you wouldn't mind could you please explain to me what you would have changed or what needs to be done differently. I want to better my ability as an artist and the only way I can do that is by feedback from others. If you looked at some of my first works that I had on here from last year, you'd see I have come along way. and that was from the help of so many on this sight letting me know what i did wrong. any positve critque is always helpful and very much appreciared. Please don't think you'll offend me or hurt my feelings by giving me you honest input. again that's how I learn. So could you please take the time to expand on your review I would deeply appreciate it

i'm sorry if i offended you. i'm not an artist, it just that drawing is my hobby and just recently i started learning digital art. for me, your piece is wonderful. but if you can make it more sharper, it'll be nicer especially the little penguin and the background.. however, the big penguin is actually very great!

no you didn't offend me in anyway. This is the type of critque that I need. I learn from others eyes so to speak. when working on a peice for awhile I might miss something that another one will see. so I appreaciate

This painting has a good feel to it. There's an abundance of blues that are nicely balanced throughout the whole scene. The orange in the clouds compliments nicely with the cooler tones. Incorporating small amounts into the white of the mountains will give some more warmth to the painting and show some reflection off the sunset at the same time. Some warmer tones, too, might go well around the parent's feet. All in all, this is an endearing painting.

I like this one, it is cute, the shapes are great and your story comes across, not sure of the white-line of snow features, they might be better toned down so the eye is able to settle on the two figures, sometimes you have to choose what is going to stand out, and stick to it

I LOVE this painting and also in fact Penguins :-) They are my favorite animals (along with donkeys and kangeroos :-) ). I think you did a GREAT job. The colour in the sky, the purple is unique and the yellow so joyful. The baby looking up at his mom, so much tenderness is revealed. Again, I absolutely adore this! Iris
